DIY SuperCharger Basics

Hi all,

I am planning to add a SuperCharger to my Ecotec 2.2 (Z22SE). I was hoping to come across a SC DIY Guide for the GM but can't seem to locate one. Can anyone with the know please list the components I need for a good install. Much appreciated

The Opel Speedsters had the S/C option, so the S/C kit from the factory should include an install manual that walks you through the process.

Hi Shifted,

There is an 2.0L Turbo version of the Speedster but no SC version. Have GM bolted a SC onto the Ecotec 2.2 (L61)? Love to get my hands on the factory manual. I am hoping to bolt on a RSM Supercharger Kit.

You could adapt a turbo just like I did to my Astra, or you could check http://www.courtenaysport.co.uk/ they sell a supercharger conversion for the speedster, but its very expensive

GM has a 2.2 s/c kit in the works, but hasn't released it yet.... they probably won't til good and long after they release the Cobalt SS in bulk, so that people will buy the SS instead of a spending $6K on a cav and then slapping another $2K or so in parts on to wind up faster (due to less weight).

Unless the speedster has the same trans as the j-body (i doubt), i dont think the RSM kit will bolt on, mine mounts to the tranny. I would call RSM though, they might be able to work with you on it.

Thanks all....

Ben, you are correct. I have been talking with RSM for the last couple of weeks and the guys are putting it all together for me. Looks like a cam driven install for me. The Engine bay of the Speedster has very limited space for any auxiliaries. To get the cam mounting space I will have to remove the EGR valve and reposition the water coolant tank.

GoZ, the Courtenay SC conversion is way expensive, I could purchase a brand new GM 2L SC engine for about the same. I was thinking of a Turbo but I would need to cut the cars bodywork. A cam driven SC will sit just fine, so here's hoping

Jersey Jay, I have heard rumours about a pending GM 2.2 SC kit. The Vortech's seem like a good unit so it I can get one up and running I will be happy

Yea, its only 855kgs and with a mid-mounted Ecotec pushing the rear wheels she is well grounded.
