Hey guys....
Its kinda crowded on the center of the firewall behind the motor-- Im not sure exactly whats there, but looks like a couple hard coolant lines or AC lines...
Id like to clear this stuff out to make room for the turbo-- I never use my A/C, and will not miss it..
Is it possible to get rid of alot of that stuff back there, either cut and reroute it- or just cap it off all together? Can I ditch my cruise control box without any side effects?
Lemme know if anyone has done this.
Thanks!!!

You can completely remove both your A/C and cruise control with no side effects other than not being able to use them. GM A/C Eliminator pulley Part # 24574519

So... eliminating the A/C would clear up some of those things back there?
Could I ditch that silver canister and all the hard lines? What are those lines filled up with- freon?

Yeah, they have freon in them, you have to drain it in accordance to law (if you are going the legal way). That will let you take out those silver a/c lines, the condensor (silver canister), and the a/c unit. You will need to get that pulley, then you can use your stock belt.

Alright...
I just checked it out back there-- Kinda forgot what it looked like..
Theres 2 large AC lines- One runs to the canister, the other runs under the coolant tank and to a large hose behind the radiator... Theres a smaller line that comes out the firewall right underneath the 2 large hard lines- this ones covered in heat shield and heads across the back of the motor and over there somewhere..Im guessing I can just cut out everything A/C related-- Legally Of course
Also- to the right of those is 2 large rubber lines... The head towards the driverside of the motor, and I had trouble really seeing where they want.. Does anyone know what these are for, and if I can get rid of those too?

those are your heater lines, supply coolant threw your heater core, so if you dont want heat you can take them off and run one hose from your waterpump to your coolant neck that attachs to the head

R.I.P. Brian Klocke, you will never be forgotten
Hrmm...
I DO use my heater- so I guess I'll leave those- but getting right of all that other crap should definately free up some space.
Thanks for the info.

Just so you know:
I relocated my cruise control box, and installed a .70 AR compressor , .60 AR turbine turbo back there.... all my heater lines are in place, my AC is in place, EVERYTHING.
And it's all installed now with a custom downpipe elbow, downpipe, and an INTAKE from the stock airbox location to the turbo.
SO - with that said - you CAN fit it all. I did... and I recommend it.
That's me.

A lot of it has to do withe the manifold and where it places the turbo.

FYI, I have an AC eleminator pully I would get rid of for the right price. Email me if you want it.
$40 shipped 2 day maybe...
It's R-134a, not Freon (R-12). Freon is VERY rarely used anymore and costs a bloody fortune.
As for venting it to the atmosphere, I don't *think* there are any laws against releaing R-134a...just do it in your garage and nobdy will be the wiser. Don't worry, the stuff won't kill you.

I removed all my a/c and cruise to make it look better, I even removed the condenser in front of the radiator. I removed a bunch of pointless brackets as well, ended up freeing up around 60 to 75 pounds of crap in the motorbay, although the turbo kit probably put half of that right back in!
Failure is not failure if you learn from it

This just bugged me for some reason. The condensor is the large sheet of heat sync in front of the radiator. That silver canister is called an accumulator or a receiver/drier depending on the A/C system design.

hey chris (SunfighterGT) if you didnt mind id love to see pics of how you did the intake setup. cuz i knew a lot of people said you cant fit an intake cone back there so i could custom make somethin for an intake. thanks
...also has neone fit a turbo mani and a t3 turbo without relocating anything? or its pretty much impossible cuz i kno many lines run around the rear i just dont know off top of my head without looking which they are.

I'd love to know what all you could have possibly removed that added up to 75lbs.

Thanks, I'm not up on the workings of the a/c system, frankly, because I don't care
Mine is also probably going to be removed

You can remove the A/C without adding this delete pulley. Free up some weight.

If you're talking about running a belt straight from the crank pulley to the alternator thats not a good idea. The delete pulley might weigh 2 lbs, it not goin to kill you.

Why is it not a good idea? The pulley it's self might only weight 2 lbs, but there is also the bracket it for it. True all together it is not a lot of weight, but weight adds up. It is all the small things added together that helps.
