Couple of boost questions
Tuesday, April 26, 2005 11:56 AM
Alright...I've got a few for you guys/gals:
1. What vehicles did the red top injectors (30lb) originally come in? I think these are my most cost effective option for injectors and I would like to find some and have them flow tested and cleaned.
2. Internal wastegates......Are all or any adjustable? What problems/benefits from internal wastegates. In searching I found high boost applications experienced "boost spikes" and creep. Where can I find more info in these?
3. Fuel......I have already installed my SAFC2 and I planned on the injectors mentioned above, probably new intank pump and AFPR. My main question is about the FMU though. Many people say get the FMU as well and use the SAFC to fine tune the settings while I have noticed recently people have had many problems with the FMU. Is this user error or is this overkill on fuel? Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

i have no idea on the injectors, i'm sure Shifted will be able to help you out on that.

As for wastegates, I'm a large fan of external wastegates so you can control your boost levels. Check out TiAL 38mm wastegates. They rock.

As for FMU's... yuck. An Aeromotive adjustable fuel pressure regulator and the SAFC should work out for you just fine.

I was a retard, and now I'm permanently banned.

1. ask shifted
2. wastegates are dependent upon your desired level of boost.. you can easily go with an internal wastegate thats set for 4 psi and then use a boost controler to up the levels later, but just make sure that you dont over do it.. i would say internal wastegate would be good up to maybe 8 to 10 psi before you would start experiencing boost spikes...

3. fmu are ok if you know exactly what ratio you want.. i would go with an adjustable one if you can spot the money..

Internal waste gates can go more then 4psi... my old man is running an internal wast gate and getting 30psi daily driving too.

Ford red tops came out of old mustangs like 89-93 ish 5.0 and maybe some thunderbird supercoupes...they are high impedence injectors...green tops also came in the the same year thunderbird supercoupes but those are 370cc i beleive and are low impedence. I just bought a set of 4 30lb injectors (red tops) from a guy that sells them on ebay for a excellent price! he sold me the clips also for $5.00 each..you will need those to splice them in so they can plug in to the injector and work like normal.

i paid a total of $140.00 free shipping also! Click me Please For Uber price's!!

I believe the red tops were in 86-87 Ford Turbo Coupes. They also were used in some of the mustangs. Green tops are 440cc and are high impedance. Brown tops are 370cc and are low impedance. Red tops are 320cc and are high impedance.

Internal wastegates are fine, and you want to get the lowest possible wastegate setting on the internal one that you can get. You can then increase the boost using a simple valve style boost controller. It makes your world a lot easier if you can start out at low boost, and tune the car to run higher numbers, instead of starting out balls-to-the-walls all at once.

internal makes @!#$ easy ,external makes @!#$ hard, if your looking for wild boost levels go external, internal is alot cheaper when it comes to getting it welded up youll prolly blow your engine b4 the internal wastegate starts being your major holdback in gaining more horsepower

"dude, thats a girls car"
PSHHHTTT NOT ANY MORE!!!!!!!
