A company out of Arizona is developing a Plug and Play ECU that uses your factory wiring harness for boost. They are currently testing it on the new 2.0L Supercharged crate engine.
The only thing thats holding them back is finding the right way to convert the engine to Waste Spark batch fire to Sequential Fuel injection like and LS1.
GM affiliates are helping them on this problem which some how is narrowed done to hopefully just the cam sensor.

you can't convert to sequential injection without changing the injector harness without messing around with the wiring.

Its just for Ecotecs, Josh, why do you have to mess with the wire harness. There aren't haven't problems with the fuel, just deleting the waste spark trouble free.
Jamie, as far as I know the LD9 2.4L doesn't have waste spark, just IDI.
This ECU is just for Ecotecs, I'll have more info on how close there done Friday and get there web address.
This companys specializes in high end dune buggies and off road vehicles, thats why they have special interest in the supercharged Ecotec engine, supposely these lightweight dune buggies utilize four cylinders to motivate the tubular frames across rough terrain.
So at least its not another electronic company that specializes in V8 with the capabiltys and resources to produce a usefull solution for us but views 4 cylinders as pee-on engines.

LD9s have three wires on their ignition side of the coils- the positive wire, 1and 4 cylinder negative, 2 and 3 cylinder negative
Ecotecs have four leads on their ignition side of the coils- the positive wire, 1 and 4 cylinder negative, 2 and 3 negative, and a waste spark lead
That last lead on the Ecotecs is raising a lot of hell, now how do LD9s have that feature.

Ok, lets make this completely clear...........
"Batch fire" and "Sequential Fuel Injection" are terms that describe how FUEL is injected
Batch Fire= groups of fuel injectors are opened together. On a 4 cyl its usually 2 pairs. 1&4 open together and 2&3 are together. The grouped injectors open each time one of the cylinders in the group is on its intake cycle.
Sequential Fuel Injection= each injector opens only by itself when its cylinder is on its intake cycle.
IDI, Waste Spark, and EDIS are terms that describe the ignition system.
Waste spark= coils are wired so that the system fires 2 cylinders at once, one cylinder will be at the end of its compression stroke... the other at the end of its exhaust stroke.
IDI and EDIS (ford)= 2 ignition systems that are based on the Wasted Spark ignition system.
The ECOTEC igniton system= is also a
wasted spark ignition system.
The LS1 ignition system= it is a coil-per-plug system and definitely not a wasted spark system. No coils fire on its exhaust stroke.

The Eco does not have a "wasted Spark" lead. The extra lead, which you mis-name, is actually a sensing wire that allows the igniton module to measure how much voltage it takes to make the arc jump across the plug gap for 1 of each of the paired cylinders. If the voltage is relatively low, that cylinder is on its exhaust stroke. If its voltage is high, its actually igniting the fuel. This allows the ignition module to signal the PCM when it actually fires the #1 cylinder. The PCM then knows which injector to open for the Sequence to be correct. The extra wire allows the ignition module to create a virtual Cam Sensor signal without actually having a Cam Sensor.
Converting to a coil-per-plug system could be done. but it would require a Cam sensor so that both the PCM and the ignition system would know when to fire which plug. Although an "ignition system" is generally not use in that setup since the PCM is actually firing the coils instead of just relaying what it wants to happen to an ignition module that then fires the coils.

waste spark is 2 cylinders sharing the same coil , and uses 1 spark plug for ground and the other for the posivtive side

Sorry Eric, they don't need a test car. They currently have GM's new 2.0L Supercharged Ecotec crate engine on their engine dyno waiting to lay some numbers down but are working threw their bugs.
Seriously though Promotec, you should give them a call when I get the number and you could probrably talk to them on a level I can't to figure out a solution. I'll get the number tommorrow.

I called today but the tech guy new about their project but had no clue and said I'd have to talk to Scott Urshell, I'm assuming that might be the owner.
