Turbo 2.4 air filter
Saturday, April 02, 2005 3:08 PM
what are some of the turbo 2.4 guys running for filters on there cars, if you got any pics post em, preferably on an auto.
everything is pretty much done on my car but now that i look at it, i realized i don't realy have room for a filter, there is probably about 2 inches between the turbo inlet and my braket for the shifter linkage. So im thinking i might have to just run some mesh on it or something. anyone else running mesh. either that or does some company make an air filter thats pretty much flat? or maby modify the braket on the trans... hmm ill have to look into that too maby.
any sugestions?

thanks

just a possibility, why not run a piece of pipe from an intake to a more open location and then put a cone filter on it? If that doesnt work, you have get custom sized K&N or Uni filters from ATV or dirt bike dealerships or order them through their catalogues.

ya there is definatly no room for a bend comming off the turbo, i was looking around and found this places sells sheets of filter foam, might put mesh on and then a layer of that and just clamp it on the inlet.

sounds restrictive....
you would want a bubble shape to the filter so theres more surface area of the filter membrane to let in more air, esp being turbo, its going to suck in a lot of air... most guys just end up running a layer of screen to help since nearly nothing will fit on most setups.

Sounds like everyone turbo inlets are on the drivers side. Is this so? On the reaper it is on the passenger side. Plenty of room for a filter.

Mine is on the passanger side too, so no problems here.
Plus when it is on the passanger side it sits so high up, I like looking at it without the air filter.

well i still have my air conditioning in so having it facing the drivers side was about the only way to get it too fit. ill just say
automatic + Air conditioning + 3" down pipe = its toight back there lol

these pics are from under the car

the hose thats right infront of the inlet is moved out of the way, but the trans linkage is still to close to put a filer on

try fliping the turbo so that the intake is on the other side

That's sounds like a better idea, than he has the exhaust on the power steering lines and the linkage.

Even with AC there is troom for a filter.

How did you get the compressor to clear the firewall mine hits it.

yea but if you flip it to have the intake on the other side then u have down pipe issues. id say leave it. my cars not fully done i can get you pics soon. i have my turbo facing downward so the piping is underneath. i have no problems and my turbo barley fit i had to tape the firewall alil to fit the turbo. and i still can do an intake and i have a DP. bu ti kno someone just put screen over their inlet since thay had no room.

i had to have the turbo facing that direction since the firewall has more clearance on that side, the compressor housing wouldn't fit the other way. also the flange on the manifold doesn't go straight back, it angles the turbo downward for more clearance.for now im just running mesh over the inlet. if i feel ambitious some time maby ill make an intake for it but for now its fine :p

I just put mine on tonight and I had to disconnect to heater. I'll rerout the hoses tomorrow, just need to 90s and some flexible hose. I think I'll run mesh over the intake for now.
