Well of course I have no luck at all. I recently boughta 01 z for 2000 with the rsm kit. Startes it up and reved it up before I bought it and didnt hear anything, today I was sitting in the back yard with it running and heard a lil something. Popped the hood and held the motor to 2000 and heard the signs of a rod, then leaned down by the pass. side wheel and heard IT. THE MOST HORRIBLE thing. yup a fauking rod is knocking. Well dicisions decisions, do I try and drop the oil pan and change the bearings or try to find another motor? Gimme some input, the motor only has 68000. Im mechanically inclined but never changed bearings. So please dont flame just help me with some input. Thanks in advance.
It depends how long you drove it like that .When i spun my bearing,i drove around for a week or so like that. When i dropped the pan,the bearing and the crank were all scored up.I had to buy a new crank.Id have the block rebuilt, and get your cylinder head port and polished if i were you.Thats what i did.

Is it auto or 5 spd. I know that my throwout bearing has sometimes made noise resembling a rod knock. Scared the piss outta me, but it goes away when you press in the clutch. Make sure it's not that if by chance it's a 5 spd.
If it truly is a rod knock then yes, you've got some decisions to make. I personally would just pull the motor and rebuild it assuming that nothing is too scored up already, as ptrblk said. This would be the perfect opportunity for you to do a water pump too. You're other option is to just find a used motor, but since you're going to eventually scream "more boost, more boost!" as most people do (and I know the feeling), you might want to have a good idea of the integrity of it.
Good luck deciding.
generally spun bearings are cause for replacing the crank. (at least in my experience)
However, since you heard it right away, its quite possible that you'll be in the clear.
I would tear the engine out, try to find another crank (if its shot), and do a build

one rule of thumb. NEVER buy a used car with major engine mods.
Hahn Stage II
350 H.P. to the ground coming very soon
with total build up.
if it threw a rod bearing due to power/tuning (and not oil starvation) it'll do it again. tune better.
nobody can tell you if you can re-use your rods & crank without seeing it, but 99% of the time, it's fixable.
porting and polising on a boosted application is dumb for the level of power you guys are at.

Seriously that is the worst advice I've heard in a while. Porting and polishing is beneficial for ANY level of power.
i never said it wasn't beneficial, i said it was dumb. you can pour your money into much smarter places than porting and polising.
I would say unless you have another car, and you don't need yours for a while, or your loaded with money, i would buy another engine, swap that in, and then start on the rebuild for the old engine.
its not that you dont have luck, you just have bad luck. that sucks that happenned
If I didnt have bad luck I wouldnt have any. I found a 2000 motor today for 500 with 64000 think its a good deal?
Same thing happened to me. I drove it with the knock for ehh...4 months lol. Got louder and louder. Had the bearings only replaced. 2 months later, it came back. Drove it until it couldn't be driven anymore. Serisouly you could hear me knocking from 100 yards away. Just got a used motor. Not worth the rebuild for me. Good luck

Getting Boosted!
I would like to know how port and polishing a head is dumb. How can it be beneficial and dumb at the same time?I dont know where these people get there knowledge from.Port and polishing your head is one of the best things you can do with a boosted/ n/a setup.

I agree with all on the p/p head ordeal, the motor is from a very reputable slavage yard next to my old job (junk yard towing job), I just talked to my old boss and she said theses guys have 1 guy for motors and when they get a car in he checks everything out even dropping the pan and checking bearings and all. With a 101 day warantee no ?'s asked. Now does it sound good?
my curent engine came from an 01 alero
it had 3000 miles on it and i only payed $550.
a complete gasket kit for the engine would almost cost that much...
mine came with all the manifolds and sensors too.

I talked to my guy over there about it, and also spoke with him at SEMA this past November. To put them into production it would take 8 purchases at $2500. That bascailly covers design and equipment setup. After those 8 are fulfilled they would be about $599 a piece just like the honda cranks are.
Kinda sucks.. they make a real nice crank. I have used them in many engine builds.

Ok got the new motor and want to go over it with new gaskets. Where can I buy the complete kit for it. Its a 2.4. Can I just go to autozone or any parts place to get it or is it a dealer kit. I def dont want to go to a dealer so if I could use the kit from a older year 2.4 please let me know. Thanks.
Yeah, you can go to autozone.Ask for a felpro gasket set.
