I'm just wondering if anybody has any clear pictures of where they tapped their oil pan on the LD9 with a manual trans? I have a good idea of where I want mine to go but I wanted to see what everybody else is doing and any problems they ran into.
Thanks guys.

You should just give up now and let me win the race
Really as long as its above the sitting oil in the pan (there should be a clear mark inside the pan to give you an idea where the oil level sits), and it doesn't get in the way of anything, you should be fine.
Long week isn't it Chris? And its only half over! Friday is still 2 days away!!! Ha, lol

R.I.P. Brian Klocke, you will never be forgotten
Yeah Ron, LONG week.... long week. I have to do a lot to prep for saturday... this is one of those things.... amongs misc wiring and all that crap.
Brandon - again... thank you as always for the help. Any chance you have a picture of it routing down from the turbo?
Also, it seems like you have lots of room there.. there is almost a dimple where you tapped the pan from what I can see?
Thanks guys.

oops, forgot description
i modified a earls bulkhead firtting, by cutton half off and putting it in the pan with gaskets and goop since i made the hole slightly too large..

Unlike the others above, I kept the actual hose on the engine side of the half-shaft. Originally, I had a 45 degree fitting in the pan to go up at an angle towards the turbo like so...
Then, I decided I didn't like that and went to a 90 deg fitting up at a slight angle as shown here:
After playing with the length of the drain line I finally got to a length where the hose would bend in the slight S shape I needed without thinning/collapsing. (When you bend thick rubber hose it wants to kink and collapse). The only thing I don't like about my drain line is that I tapped the oil pan without looking to see where the stupid balance shafts are at first. Where my drain enters the pan, it only has about .5" or maybe less before the oil splashes into the balance shaft shield/cover thingy. I recommend trying to place your fitting so that the oil has a free and clear shot into the pan. I haven't run into any problems with my drain line, but I would certainly feel better about it if the oil had a little more of a straight shot to the rest of the oil in the pan. Some people might argue about me going straight down from the turbo and then 90-ing into the pan, too. I don't think the 90 will have that much effect, but that's just my personal opinion. Maybe the 45 would have been better, but it put the line in a funny position, making it hard to get back to the turbo.
my only concear about the pan taps is that the port can become submerged on acceleration ... i think.

^ Yeah they can, but the pressure in the line should push the oil out, although there will be a backpressure and on really hard accelerations the oil pressure in the turbo would probably go up due to a restriction trying to push the oil out.

Chris, answer my darn email and I'll post a picture. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt... Do yourself a favor and make sure you have a fitting welded in, saves having to do it again (trust me on this one)
