I am sure this has probably been asked before but couldn't find it. I am purchasing a supercharger but which is better the GM supercharger or the RSM suprcharger and why?
What do you want out of your car?
GM - very very reliable, comes with a warranty on the supercharger and will keep your warranty on your engine and drive train if you still have it. Very easy to put in.. i just put my'n on yesterday (i am only 17 and i put it in in about 8 hours). and when its on it looks stock. down side is you can only make up to 6psi of boost, if you want to make more you can but you have to put on Alcohol injection as there is no other way have an intercooler on it. And it only cost about $2000u.s (2850cdn)
RSM - not as reliable (not to say it isn't good), can produce a lot more power and you can put an intercooler on it, not sure how hard it is to install and it costs $3900 for stage one and $4900 for stage two.
no one can tell you what one to get.. it depends what you want out of your car.
GM- Heard a few people have some technical problems but has warranty.
Roots type blower=^^^^ no intercooling + higher intake charge because of the type of blower it is.
Wide "v8 like" powerband but not a really high peak horse power. I've seen alot of 180whp+
Not as loud. No blow off valve.
Warranty- customer service is questionable depending on your dealer
RSM- I just bought a kit for 3300. Very high quality machine work (I use to be a cnc machinist) Charger, BOV, and FPR are very nice. Other parts that are supplied are adequete (like hoses and such). They also give you a tap for the oil pan wich I thought was nice.
Most of is achieved at 2k to 2.5k rpm (75 percent) and has a higher powerband

GREAT customer service. They're even on here.
Well it sounds biast but that's just because I delt with them. I just dont have any info on the GM charger.
It's just now cutting it's teeth.
Oh yeah...RSM had problems with squealing belts but that problem was resolved by using a gatorback poly v belt from Good Year.
Also heard that the kits can't go past 9 psi because of belt slippage? not sure.

GM s/c comes with that gatorback pulley to begine with... as for hp with the gm supercharger... 180hp at the wheels (stock is 130hp at the wheels) on a bone stock 2.4L engine and stock psi is about 4psi... to reach 200hp all you need is the 6psi pulley and a header/exhaust.. and yes i have seen proof of this from a guy near me with the proof of dyno runs.
I reached 198.2hp with an intake and a lower engine mount
Go with the GM charger. You won't regret it.

i would agree, i have the kit (have yet to install) and it comes with a step by step installation guide with tons of pictures. Its also very reliable and has low mantainance(so i heard...correct me if im wrong).
If your looking for reliability then the GM charger for sure. If you want all out performance the RSM charger hands down.

ELIOT. Now.....boosted.
I have driven both.
In cold weather the GM kit is certainly awesome.
I have noticed and heard from many that hot weather kills the eaton. Just like my car falls flat on it's face in the summer. In the winter...my car hauls like a scalded dog.
I suppose the only real negative I have found with the Vortech is that it's boost curve is non linear. An issue easily overcome. It's eficiency is the real bonus. They just don't get hot. Intercooling will not be needed unless big boost numbers are reached. We have not needed one in our trials.
Price wise. GM's kit has the distict advantage. If that's what drives you...you better hurry. Not many left.
I wish I could put a vortech in my car. A really big one. Muahahhaa.

198.2 with only the stock 4.5psi pulley, intake and engine mounts? any exhaust work?
wow i should dyno my car and see what i am at...
NONE Freebs. I put up my dyno charts a while back. I think the thread was titled "S/C Numbers". Then again, my car was a freak before the s/c as well. Dynoed without the s/c at 149hp and 157tq I believe. I put up those charts in the thread as well if I remember correctly.
