I've heard of some people having "junkyard turbo" projects. I was just wondering what turbo's these people are using. What cars do you get them from?
Sorry, I kind of got in a hurry.
i'm using a 14b from a first gen DSM.
T3/T04E - not a real junk yard setup tough. .48 exhaust side and .70 compressor side.

i got mine from a 86 nissan 300zx ...T3 .63 a/r stage 2 hot ..im not sure what the a/r is for the cold but i know it uses a 60 trim wheel. cant wait to see what this bad boy can do!
Btw, you can find my turbine housing on some diesel Mercedez.

look for a T3 out of a newer Saab if you are searching. The 14b is a great turbo, spools quickly. But not much higher powerband use. The 16g out of 2nd gen DSMs is also a pretty decent turbo as well.

I'll be using a T25. I got it off of a 97 eclipse.

that will work. you might want to get yourself a Tial 38mm wastegate

why buy another wastegate? there is nothing wrong with the wastegate that is on the turbo. internal gates are just as reliable, if they werent, factory cars wouldnt have them. Not to mention, less parts to buy, and a much easier install!
what is this mis-conseption about external wastegates? It only plays a large role when you are building a full-out race engine, which most of us will never be able to afford definatetly not j owners.

2g dsms didnt have 16g's they actually had tiny t25's should have stuck with the 14b. the 16g's came in some evo's in japan.
my advice on wastegates, is that in my experience, putting the mitsu wastegate back on a turbo after the whole assembly has been taken apart and cleaned, leads to functionality issues. not boost creep and definitely not a boost controller error, because i was using a $700 turbo management system.

ok, i see, based on personal experience and preference. good arguement. i guess a preventative for the rest of us would be not to take the thing apart then.
i have a IHI rhb5 from a 86 ford turbo coupe sitting in my back seat i am really thinking about using.... its a t3 flange btw...
Also my manifold isn't flanged for an external wastegate. Which is y i went with the T25. I can always upgrade later. I'd just like to get my setup on there and running. I'll be sure to get u guys pictures once shes all done.
what about a turbo from a turbo z ( the old daytonas) i see a lot of those at the junk yards. they are just a pain to get out!
