Okay, When I jump on the gas the car just stalls, I think its the FPR? It feels like fuel startvation. Is there something I need to do to the FPR to make it work w/ boost?

What kind of FMU do you have ?
Factory setup. is that bad?
- JTR
Um Yes. At least add an FMU and maybe bigger injectors. But first check your compression, because if you have done this more than once than consider yourself very lucky if you don't need a new engine. Go read up on your fuel system choices. And good luck.
Eric
What is a good FMU for my application? I wanted to run about 6psi. From what I understood that was okay on stock fuel management.
- JTR
Most guys use a adjustable FMU and z24 injectors for 7 lbs.
JTR wrote:Factory setup. is that bad?
How did you expect the engine to get the extra fuel that it needed for boost?
275hp & 306tq - 1999 2.2 ohv
13.2 @ 108 mph
-1996 2.4 liter + Turbo + Built motor + Torco + More boost = Lots o' Power
-2000 Mustang GT + 2004 Cobra motor, Whipple 2.3 supercharger,
built rear-end,Dodge Viper spec T56 6 speed, bolt-ons = wheelies at the track!!!!!

Cause I asked the questions for what else I would need, and no one said a new FMU. The stock FMU wont take any boost?
- JTR
Okay I guess I'll buy the Cartech FMU. thanks.

Put down the turbo.

stock FPR (fuel pressure regulator) works on 1:1 ratio with fuel which is not nearly enough of fuel consumption for your 6 PSI setup..you will need a FMU (Fuel managment Unit) which is basicly a over size remote FPR with the capabilitys of adjustment and alot higher fuel/boost ratio by pressurizeing the return line to force more fuel into the fuel rail....
6 PSI roughly is about 90+ Pressure in the fuel rail at WOT....i dont know what stock WOT pressure while not under boost (maybe around 60) So your gonna have to buy a vortech FMU ..millions of them on ebay..but those are not so adjustable....vortech FMU's take certain ratio disc's that you have to interchange according to your ratio you need which can be a pain. Those usually run about $35.00 + ...the kit with all the disc's (4:1-6:1-8:1-10:1-12:1-14:1) runs about another $50.00. Another FMU that cartech makes is prob your best bet...fully adjustable no need for disc's..just turn a knob and you can adjust fuel pressure even in between those ratios where the disc's cant go...
hook the vacuum line out of your intake onto the FMU (usually same line that goes to your stock FPR) and when boost occurs..the FMU will apply pressure...etc; if you put a 12:1 ratio disc in your vortech FMU:
Every 1 PSI of turbo boost in the intake that sends it to the FMU see's..12 PSI of fuel pressure the FMU delevers. Thats how you get extra fuel ...
or you can go other routes as listed all over this site which im not too familair with.(EIC system...piggybacks, bigger injectors etc
Hope it helps
honestly how can you look over upgrading fuel on a turbo setup....? ALso even tho its obivous you are starved of fuel do you have a check valve assembly?

well this is my first turbo, and i relied alot on people on the org to help me out. I dont have a check valve assembly. Again, I didnt know I needed it. I'm not driving the car untill I get the rest of my parts. If you all can think of anything I overlooked please help me out, I dont want to blow the motor.

Did you upgrade your fuel pump too???
you don't need upgrade fuel pump for 6 psi. No check valve is needed on 2200 if that's the level of boost you are running. Get an FMU with around 4:1 if you are going to keep it at 6 psi. If you are going to go further in the future, as long as it's under 10 psi, get a 6:1 fmu and 24-26# injectors. You can ge 26# injectors from Ford Mustangs or 24 from Z24 engines. Your car is High Impedence, so you can run both High and Low impedence injectors.
And sorry for not looking and answering your question since I have the same engine. I've ran 8-9 psi of boost with a 6:1 fmu, intercooled, and the power is there until after 6 psi which the power starts to come down. I guess it's my injectors that are doing this and that's what others with the same issue told me. Z24 injectors will be fine with up to 10 psi, but do not go to 10 unless you have internals. You can run 10 with upgrades on the fuel pump and MSD2, but I won't trust my internals for that level of boost. Maybe you can run for a week or too, but I wouldn't want to drive my car under the pressure that it's going to blow up anytime.
Also, when you said you stomp on the gas paddle, was it dead stop? Because if the RPM isn't at the boost range and your car stalls before that, there's other issues that you are having beside the injector. Maybe the blades in the turbo are not turnning at all. My other turbo had a lot of play in it and that's what it does to my car when I slow down for a light, it just chokes and die.
firewolf23 thanks a ton, that answers all of my questions. it stalls once I start makin boost, around 2k/2.5k revs. I just sold one of my bikes so I have a little bit of car cash. So hopefully by next week or the one after I'll be fully boosted and smokin' some civics. thanks bro.

You don't need a turbo to smoke civics.

mwaha tru dat

It would probably be a good idea to atleast get a fuel pressure gauge to see if the fuel pressure drops or does not go any higher if you do not get some kind of high pressure/high volume fuel pump. If I remember correctly, when I tried running the fmu with the stock fuel pump, the fuel pressure would not go over 65-70 psi.
Whatever you do, get the car on the dyno to check the air/fuel before you start beating on it.
Go with the Cartech FMU.

couldnt u go with a safc-2???
I would say go with the Emanage over the Safc or Safc 2. Emanage might be about $100 more expensive with the the Support Tool and injector harness, but to me it looks a little bit more user friendly. You can also adjust timing with Emanage, I dont think you can with the Safc.

please do yourself a favor and do not drive the car hard until you do something about the fuel. how much boost were u running??

Do yourself a bigger favor and clamp your wastegate open..... then spend time aquiring the parts and knowledge that it takes to turbocharge a car properly. We can help, but only those that ask questions.
here's what you should do.....
1. Buy cartech FMU
2. Buy a high flow fuel pump ( $70 bucks from your local autozone )
3. Upgrade your injectors
4. Buy an E-Manage... install it and ask JayP2K for his fuel setup his a/f is right on....
