LD9 TVS Build
Monday, March 26, 2012 7:29 PM
I am starting this thread because I have bought a Harrop TVS 1320 and my previous thread here is titled wrong and in the wrong section for the new direction of the build. I plan on running it upside down where the AC pulley is, like someone did with a M90 on quad4forum and piping it to a FMIC.

Build consists of:
Fetter's block, already has 2.3 oil pump swap
Miller oil pan
Jet Titanium Quad4 rods
W41 cams modified for the LD9 power steering and the CPS pad added
McMoney's adjustable cam gears (probably getting rid of these to help pay for the new direction)
Crank knife edged
Crower Valve Springs
TI spring retainers
1mm oversized SS valves
35mm "light weight" lifters
ARP Main and Head studs
Ron's long tube header
3" flex pipe
3" magnaflow cat
2.5" Vibrant resonator
2.5" Vibrant muffler
HO manifold with LD9 head flange
2.3 TB bored to 60mm (probably upgrading to LS1)
OBX LSD, been rebuilt
Bully Stage 3 clutch
Lightened stock flywheel, 13lbs
2.2 MSD coil conversion (already installed)
Light weight crank and alt pulleys (crank installed)

Coatings:
The piston tops with a thermal barrier coating
The piston skirts will be with an anti friction coating
Header will be ceramic coated
Various other parts will be powder coated

I have been trolling the cobalt SS forum for info but still have some questions. I'm not sure what compression to run, Colbalt SS's have 9.5:1 CR and they get high 300's out of this charger, so I'm thinking the same or 10:1. They are also running between 60-80 lbs/hr injectors(630cc-840cc) so I am thinking of running the injector dynamics 750cc units.

Comments always welcome

Im not going to run anything lower than 10:1.

This will be sad if a LD9 is the 1st JBO car to get a Harrop instead of an eco.

I plan to one day run a cobalt M62 like that.

Do work, post pics, I'd run the outleton the tvs toward the dr. Side though right into the H.O. mani and use meth to cool intake temps. I'll be keeping an eye on this

Nope. I've just been focusing on other areas of the car.

Not yet, mine is still sitting in the basement.

One of my spare heads will be going to M2Race their special treatment and will get all of the bells and whistles. ATM, im thinking about sending a spare block off to ZZP for them to massage. Im not planning on doing this until the winter(i know i have said that every summer) and i'll decide on the final compression ratio in the fall.

Thats the plan right now. Should be cheaper then having a completely custom intake manifold made.

Mike are the LSJ and LD9 crank pulley diameters the same, iirc 6.5"?

LD9 Pulley groove OD at centerline of the belt is 6.406"
LSJ, L61, LE5, & LNF Pulley groove OD at centerline of the belt is 6.295"
LN2 Pulley groove OD at centerline of the belt is 6.140" Just for gigglez...

So and LD9 will actually be spinning it faster than the LSJ crank pulley would.

Ohh I like this setup...

Man... that looks tighter than the G-Lader setup I'm working on. Mine stops right by the oil filter...

First question on the above setup is - I THINK I can see the oil filter there but was a relocation kit used?

I have done a lot of looking at my mockup engine - where do you think you'll be able to get the mounting points off the block?

I was gonna use the lower alternator bolt, the empty boss beside the oil filter in the block, the two tensioner/ac compressor top bolts and the 2 slotted ac compressor spots on the oil pan...

Very cool build, you're lucky it's a sealed oil unit - you can mount it as low a you want!

What are you going to do to get a full wrap on the S/C pulley? Do you plan to integrate an idler pulley between the crank and supercharger?

Might need more belt wrap, but not sure. Since it will probably sit farther away from the motor than the AC compressor would.

You just missed a discount that m2 put on for ecotec heads

This will be a unique and quite cool setup once it's done.

Yeah see in order for me to see full belt wrap I need to put an idler between the crank and my supercharger to put a "V" in the lower portion of the belt rather than that straight line from the crank to the AC Compressor...

Plus the charger sits up higher than the bottom of the AC Compressor pulley so it wont be an "L" coming off, it'll be a sharper angle which will have even less wrap.

I believe that's why they put the GMSC idler in, to get a "U" belt wrap around the charger like the alt has in those photos.

That's why I questioned how he planned to do it and how it was done in the top setup.

Love to learn!

Whats the difference between a Harrop and a straight M62? Is it more efficient than running a turbo or just for the sake of being different? It just seems like running it into an fmic defeats the quick response of a supercharger to a point.

How does hanging the sc upside down affect the oiling internally?

The build does seem sweet. I remember seeing that m90 build and I always thought it would be cool to do. Id like to do something like that on an LN2.

It is a third bigger and runs cooler. So more cooler air.

I'll post responses once I get off work in a few hours but any input on compression or injectors?
