Boost drop
Thursday, October 06, 2011 1:48 PM
So I've noticed lately when accelerating and I watch my boost gauge that around 5500 rpms it drops from 14 to 4 and won't go any more. I checked some connections and vacuum lines and its still doing it. I thought maybe my wastegate? But I would like peoples opinions.

Need more info on the setup...
Size turbo, what type of controller. it COULD be the waste gate opening up to early and bleeding it all off...

Oh I never thought about that. Ok I have a 60mm precision turbo with an aem Tru boost and a 38mm turbonetics open dump wastegate. I think right now I have it set so it starts cracking open about 5lbs. But since I put this new turbo on its been doin this so maybe I should up it to like 8 or so.

What spring is in WG? Sounds like the duty cycle is off...

You have alot to learn.... And its not just 1 spring.. There are different springs/shims used for wastegate pressure. You need to take the wastegate apart and see what color paint is on the spring to identify base pressure.

Oh you meant wastegate duty cycle correct? Well have you ever seen the turbonetics deltagate? Because u adjust the nut on it to compress the spring so u don't have to swap them. When i had it apart their was no color on it. I also was watching my a/f today and when this happens it drops down to 10.1-10.4 and I can't understand why.

My wife has a Deltagate... She has a 10-12# spring and a few shims in it.... I know what you mean by thre adjustment screw, but that doesn't mean you should not change the spring... Do you have a log of this happening? Mind sending me your file to take a look?

Man I don't have a log of it otherwise I would be happy to. I was just watching my wideband. I'll be around 12.3-12.6 then all of the sudden around 5500 rpms boost drops down to 4lbs if that and my af drops 10.1-10.3. I thought maybe my @!#$ty fmu was messed up but not certain.

Well I checked the vacuum line to it and that seemed ok so maybe I should take it off and look.

Before you do anything...

Does the tru-boost act as a boost controller? If so I would take that out of the equation and just run of the gate spring and see if you see the same drop. It sounds like its a control issue if it drops that quickly.
