ive got a saab 9-3 turbo manifold and turbo .. what else do i need to put it on ? how do i get the oil to the turbo and back into the motor ? please help kinda noobish on this turbo stuff .

you need the oil and water lines. best thing would to find a junkyard that has that motor with the turbo on it and see if you can get the lines.

you can buy other lines that work perfectly if you cannot find the stock saab lines... i had that problem when i did mine... i used the stock oil return which you drill into the block 17/32 sized hole... dont mess that up cause its expensive...DROP YOUR OIL PAN!!!!! i used an autometer fitting 12x1.75 for the oil feed out of the block and a 4 an line to a banjo fitting on the turbo... for the coolant i got 6 an banjo fittings from russell and used a 3/8 line to the heater core for the return and a 3/8 line from the upper rad hose to the turbo for the feed.... advance auto parts has the gasket between the turbo and manifold for like 7 bucks and i got the return gasket from a saab dealer for 3 bucks but you can make your own or use grey rtv like you use to make the oil pan gasket..... your also going to need to get a downpipe made...
http://www.genuinesaab.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=44_76&products_id=776 i used this flange since you dont need a gasket... plus you can use either a 2.5 or 3" dp..... everyone will say its not possible to fit 3" but it just depends on the way it is built. i paid $330 for my downpipe i can take pics of the bends and clearance if needed i have room for a 3".... i know the brandonson dp is a tight fit my friend has the exact one off of his old car..( he doesnt make them anymore ive heard) you may need to heat and bend the coolant line coming out of the thermo housing.. other than that thats all for the turbo itself.. make sure you have charge piping, an intercooler,tuning,injectors.... if you need any info send me a message i have extra parts and can send you part numbers of what i used i still have all the packaging...
John, that gasket between the manifold and the turbo (round 3 bolt gasket) Is it a universal gasket advanced has? Or do I give them the car info for that.. I also need this gasket.. thanks
no its not universal... ask for a 2008 saab 9-3... they had to order it its just a little metal gasket.... remember you cannot just make a gasket with gasket maker due to the heat obviously.... and i believe rock auto has that gasket as well....
For oil feed I made a fitting by turning down a bolt to fit into the feed port in the block, also put a 1/8 hole down the center, then trimmed the npt side off of a -4an to npt adapter. Recessed a hole in the bolt head for the an fitting to rest in comfortably, tig welded her up and done. Took about an hour and didn't cost a dime. Makes a pretty good 3 in 1 block adapter, oil reducer, an fitting. Then I bought a -4an banjo for oil and 2 1/2" banjos for coolant along with brass tees and made all my own lines. Oil return is the only thing I got from the yard
this may sound stupid, but is there an alternative to drilling into the block for the oil feed? Is this what Ryan Thompson is talking about? advantages/disadvantages?
Im thinking about starting to piece together a Saab setup, but I dont want to drill into the block at all if not 100% necessary and still efficient at cooling/lubing properly

Just drill into the girdle, it is the way it was meant to be with the saab lines.

well heres the deal with drilling... if you look at the saab and the lnf(turbo cobalt) the return goes to the same place... yes there are alternatives either way your gonna have to drill a hole... its a mitsubishi center section so find the right oil drain piece and fitting for the turbo and then you can run the return into the pan... the place you drill into on the block girdle is safe unless you dpnt drop the pan..... its honestly where an ecotec oil return is supposed to go its just a different casting due to the l61 is non turbo... in all honesty when i switch to the hy35 turbo next summer i will be threading that hole and running my return there as well. just drill a pilot hole then use a 17/32 drill bit.
