i just installed my new battery, was in the trunk and just put it back up front. right after i started getting a weird turbo noise. from around 1psi to wastegate opening (13.5) it whistles like never before. sounds like a wicked supercharger. is that a sign of the turbo going bad?
running rich? turn the boost up
Yes
running rich? turn the boost up
My turbo started doing that too. It does sound like a supercharger....LOL
Im not sure what it is but I lack a turbo timer and on some occasions have not waited for the turbo to cool down
GMR has got nothing on this
I checked on anther forum and someone stated its a boost leak

there is going to be some sort of whistle with the turbo. is it a whistle or grinding/scraping noise? check the turbo and make sure there is no excessive shaft clearance, check the compressor and turbine wheel blades and make sure there is no damage. also check to make sure the blades are not contacting the housings. if this is all good then put your foot to the floor and enjoy the whistle. my cobalt whistles as well under boost but to me its a beautiful melody.
If it is just starting to go bad you can probably get a rebuild kit and replace the bearings for not too much.

Only issue is making sure its balanced properly. Turbos can reach up-wards of 100k rpm when creating full boost. If its not balanced properly, it can cause catastrophic failure to the turbo.
I know some diesel shops around here in Phoenix offer rebuilds and balancing. Depends on the turbo.
"Oil Leak ? What oil Leak ? Oh, Thats Just The Sweat From All The HorsePower!!"
I did undo a pipe and rebolt it. It is boosting at the rpm as before and everything is tight. It doesnt sound like grinding, just like insane turbo whistle. Sounds very sharp or high pitched

Ive been thinking, the battery fills up a big empty spot that was in your engine bay. Maybe the sound of the turbo is reflecting off your battery towards the cab making it seem louder.
