2200 Turbo Question

Hey all,

First off, thanks for keeping this site up and running! It really has been an invaluable source of information.

I do have a question about an idea that's been mulling around in my head for a while now that I'd like more opinions on though.

A friend of mine is selling his TD04-9B turbos from his 3000gt and I was wondering what you guys thought about running one of those on a stock 2200. I have done a little research into this, and know that they're a pretty small turbo and probably wouldn't be great for making power at high rpms, but I'm not looking for a peak power machine. This is my daily driver, so realistically this car spends most of its life running from 2000-4000 rpms and that's where I'd be looking for the most gains. I'm hoping to bump it up to around 150-160 whp using the stock 3000gt waste gates, which I'm pretty sure is set at 8psi (the turbos are coming off a 1st generation VR4).

Do you think this is a reasonable goal? I planned on making a custom header this summer and intake manifold if necessary.

I know I'll need bigger injectors as well, but what size do you think I'll need? Would some 240cc injectors from an old Eclipse work? Or the 360cc's from the VR4?

It's still largely an idea at this point, so any and all input is appreciated. I'm still a little skeptical about boosting a car with over 150,000 miles on it too, but it doesn't burn anything and still has good compression. If I don't go through with it, I'll probably just pick up HPTuners to preoccupy my need to fiddle with my car for now (and yes I know I'd need it to tune for the turbo anyway, but I'd rather get it tuned professionally if I'm going to run boost).

The car is still stock by the way. The only things I've really done to it are maintenance things. Any and all input is appreciated! Thanks!

Hmmm looks like the saab flange dont know where youll find a manifold to accomidate that turbo as its a 3 bolt.

what year motor? dsm injectors are a little big i think 30lb ish injectors should be fine.

A friend of mine has a full machine shop where I'm sure i could make a flange/manifold for it. The injectors I was looking at were off i believe a 93 non-turbo Eclipse, but that was just an idea. My engine is the '98 2.2L OHV. After doing a bit more homework though I'm concerned the turbo might be too small and surge could be a problem, which I hadn't really considered before.
