Boosting a LD9 on stock internals
Saturday, April 02, 2011 9:23 PM
I know I am going to get newb'd for this but here goes....

I am running a 1999 Z24 LD9 on stock internals with secret cams and 2.3Ho intake. I am running a FMU and Apexi SAFC already. The shop doing my tuning will also have HPTuners. So the question is:

How much boost can the stock internals withstand for a weekend car... I drive my work truck everywhere so it will not be a full dd but i plan to street it.... Also putting system together so I can have all the piping ran and fuel system done while i build an engine on the stand. It will be a full built LD9. Hope to have Fetter or someone build me a log style intake like he runs.

I will be running a T3/T4 57 trim .60A/R top mount with external wastegate.

I have tuned a internally stock LD9 with 15psi and that motor is still running.

Nice... After reading several of the posts here I think I will just try a 10-12 psi max tune for this motor. I'll crank the boost up when i get the other engine built. I might even put this setup in a vert and run a bigger turbo on the built motor for my coupe...

This thread makes no sense... SAFC on a j-body?

Want to know how much power a stock internaled LD9 can handle, than say its going to be a full built LD9?

I understand you didn't completely read the post. You put "It will be a full built LD9" but forgot to read the sentence in front of it. This kit will be going on a Stock bottom LD9 with secret cams. I am going to be building a motor on the stand while I run this setup and plan to crank the boost up on the built engine.

As far as the SAFC, it's been on the car for 8 years. Not much else for tuning a J-Bod then.... I knew i would get a response like this.... process what you read guys before you shoot your mouth off....

In regards to the SAFC. It does nothing on your year J, other than jack up timing.

K... So are we limited to HPTuners alone or what would you recommend for this setup? How did you tune yours on stock internals?

Check my registry for mod list.. and check sig below for best time. Stock internals on a 95k engine with 50+k of it being boosted.

GM supercharger on stock pulley for 1 season.

Homemade intercooled turbo kit with T3 super 60 on 5psi for 1 season, 10psi for 2 seasons, and 15psi last season.

This engine has been through hell over the years. GM s/c tune modified with HPtuners by Airtonics. No dyno tune.

HPT or stand alone/megasquirt.

most of the boosted j's on here either run the GM reflash, hpt, or a combo of the two of them.

Im pretty sure I read what you posted.

Here is the sentence before what I quoted:

I guess I missed the part where you were going to be driving the car while you were building the motor.

May want to actually read your own post.

Even though you acted like an ass, heres your answer....

There is know way we can tell you how much boost YOUR motor will hold stock. We dont know mileage, condition, hell we dont even know what turbo your going to run. 10psi on a small t3 turbo is a lot different than say on a GT35R.

Been through hell is an understatement.

I sounded like an ass because you obviously can't read. Please do not reply to this thread anymore. I stated in the beginning i will be running a T3/T4 57 trim .60A/R, top mount with external wastegate.

It is also .48A/R on the exhaust side... The engine has 56,000 and is perfectly maintained....

I didn't think you could do the reflash on the 99 ECM?

Quick,

Did Airtronics custom tune yours with HPTuners or do they have a tune in the HPT registry?
I

I just finished mounting the turbo and running the oil lines. Turbo Dave of Research & Development http://www.theturbodave.com will be running my charge pipes and exhaust next week when he returns from vacation. I still need injectors, not sure what to run here? Plus I need to route a catch can. What injectors should I run for a 10-12psi tune on a T3/T4 57trim .60A/R? I would like to have this thing running by the end of the month.

Help! Help! Help!

Custom tune with HPT on top of the GM s/c reflash.

What does it take to run the GM S/C reflash on the 99ECM?

just load the GM reflash with HPT, but you will loose some gauge functions.

What gauge functions would I lose/why?
Re: Boosting a LD9 on stock internals

Do a search to find out I do not know them, but it is because of the lack of a BCM in 99. 2000+ uses a BCM to control gauges and other things.
