M62 install question
Friday, March 25, 2011 4:11 PM
went through the boxes and install instructions last night with the pops. gots a couple questions?

intake manifold bolts. i can use the stock l61 manifold bolts correct? they are 6MM and the LSJ bolts are 8MM???????

Can I use the L61 alternators bolts to install the LSJ alternator? Called the local dealer, and he said they show the same part number, but the instructions say there are longer bolts???

Bolts that hold the blower to the manifold. do they HAVE to be the cap screw style, or will regular hexhead bolts allow a socket to fit in there?

thanks for the help in advance guys. blower goes on next weekend!!!

Go here: http://www.mcmaster.com/#shoulder-screws/=bimosh. You want the M6 bolts with the 8mm diameter shoulder and 10mm long shoulder. You need 5 of them and i just used a regular set of m6 bolts for the 2 longer bolts.

I used the stock intake mani bolts for ~2 years until one broke off in the head this winter and forced me to heli-coil it. JUCNBST referred me to those shoulder bolts and so far i love them. Yes, you are correct with the L61 and LSJ bolt sizes.

You need longer bolts, the stockers are too short because of the bracket you need to install.

It is a tight fit with an allen wrench, i image that it would be a HUGE pita with regular sockets. I ordered these from Fastenal to replace my original bolts: M8-1.25 x 45mm CL 12.9 DIN 912 Zinc Socket Head Cap Screw

if you kit came w/ alternator bracket bolts, you can use those but otherwise stock will not work.
i bought 4 new bolts from lowe's for my supercharger to manifold install. the hex ends rounded on me.

this is the start of my signature: have you read the RULES yet?
my carDomain updated 6/11/10 Forged and Supercharged

My car seemed to like the one step colder plugs better than the stockers. You are going to have to close the gap on the stock plugs atleast.

throttle body to supercharger - M6-1. The length depends on what TB adapter you are using and these bolts are included with my adapters.

alternator bracket bolts - Im pretty sure they are M6-1 and i dont remember the length. I'll check mine out and get back to you.

why are you gonna come into a thread and ask questions that have already been answered in said thread...MORON.

anyway thanks Tinkles and JUCN for the tips. I'm starting Thursday night with the tear down of everything, gonna clean up some bolts and things, paint the blower and start installing (and hopefully finish) Saturday. Would be awesome to go for a cruise Sunday!
