I'm really just tired of reading a bazillion contradictory posts. I'm not paying 10$ for a single plug. (Ngk ltr6ix) I was planning on using srt4 plugs but I'm growing weary of the issues I have read. I would like to know 2 things....
1. Who is using Saab 9-3 plugs and what do you think of them?
2. Those who had issues with the srt4 plugs, what EXACTLY was so bad with them?
Please help!!
I used srt4 plugs, and will again.
Never once had an issue...
im using 2 steps colder iridium i paid 749 a piece.... hahn racecraft swears by the srt plugs..... side by side they are different plugs....there longer i believe...
i can justify spending $8 a plug ONCE or TWICE a year... i mean to me thats not going for a cruise when i get bored worth of money.... or not buying something i dont need... its really not that much. but its all personal preference. ill stick with my LTR7IX-11
^ I agree with Vince. I've had no issues with NGK's and for the 10k miles or less I drive a year I only change my plugs once a year...no biggie.
i do gotta ask why everyone says you gotta change your plugs so much on a turbo build?it makes not a bit or sence plugs are supposed to be good for 100000 miles and ppl change then every year.... i mean unless your fuel fouling them out i dont understand it haha im running the ngk 7's too so...
Pick a reason, they get covered in suit or gas or fuel, general wear and tear, putting them through harsher conditions under boost and depending on your tune could be off a little, peace of mind knowing they are brand new at the start of the season.
I do it since at times my car runs rich, so they are getting extra gas and what not on them. Also I do it as a peace of mind deal. I feel much better knowing that they are new for the season. Plus I put 20k miles on it in 5 months, as well as race the @!#$ out of it on the same set of plugs.
Thanks for all the info guys. Still wondering if anyone has heard of using Saab plugs? I think I read a little snippet somewhere about them, Idk.
Also still curious to know what issues the srt4 have caused. From what I understand so far is that those against them are just claiming "better safe than sorry". Or do they cause a mechanical issue or running problems?
The SRT4 plugs are not the proper length, buy the plug that is for the application, don't cheap out. Spark plugs are fairly important, wouldn't you wanna be "better safe than sorry".

This is exactly why I made a new thread. I'm looking for new information / physical evidence as to why the plugs are not good. NOT the same biased opinion from someone who has never even tried a different way and cannot explain to me what is so bad about them. "They are bad because they are" is not logical enough for me. Will they cause knock? Will they cause blowout? Will they cause detonation? Will my pistons hit them? Will they cause the polar ice caps to melt? Will my car fly like a magical carpet ride? Specificity is key. I'm looking for a reason not an answer.
Also I guess my biggest question is on the 9-3 plugs. Has anyone heard of using them? I'm going to stop at AutoZone later tonight to compare them to my delco stock plugs. It would be nice if we had an inexpensive copper plug that is an OE fit to our ecotecs
Click me.
Check the thread pitch and seat on the Saab plugs, im willing to bet that they are different(LSJ's are).
its an old concept. time for something new to take the reigns. - Z yaaaa

Just buy them and try them then. It just sounds like you're trying to be cheap about it.
Not trying to cheap out. I would just prefer copper

reasoning behind this ???
RIP JESSE GERARD.....Youll always be in my thoughts and prayers...
im using platinum + 2 and never had an issue even under boost. i will be changing them at the 100k mile mark and no less.

If a plug is longer or shorter than the factory plug, does it not make sense to you that you shouldn't run it?

srt4 plugs were said in some cases to have the piston hit them..... and why would you want a cheap metal plug for a turbo app... buy the ngk iridium and call it a day.....
Saab plugs wont work completely different plug i run them but im using a saab head/lsj.
Copper plugs have better conductivity and are more resistant to heat. It just happens to be a plus that they are cheaper
plus the iridium plugs have had a history of the tips breaking off.
the saab plugs are way different they are just like the lsj's. thanks for that article Tinkles, good read. I guess this is just going to be another one of those agree to disagree things.

i have never once broke a tip off of an NGK iridium and i have had the car for 5 years now i think? And have been through 30+ spark plugs...
Used to change my copper plugs every other oil change lol.
I alo like copper over the iridiums. The Iridium tip even if they do not break off, they are not the best for adjust gap, and the tips can burn out easily.

call me stupid but i run these and have zero issues with them

^^^ those are to short. Reading the AZ page about the ngk 4396 plugs it says they are .58" reach ecotec takes a 1" reach plug. The tr6s are .708
