my cars not creating boost
Thursday, July 22, 2010 10:57 AM
ok so heres the problem, i got a 1996 z24 that im running a t3/t4 turbo kit on, i got all charge pipe hooked up, no leaks from what i see or feel but my car will not creat boost. the only thing i dont have hooked up is the exhaust from turbo to downpipe, could this causemy boost problem? im not even really creating vaccum.

please write back with any ideas, it goes to the shop friday for ecu programming so i want everything else to be done so i can drive it home.

hello no, im not trying to blow the seals on my brand new turbo, as i said, its not even getting vaccum. its sitting in my shop, the most iv done with it is tapped the fuel to see if vaccum or a tad of boost will kick in. just wondering if the exhaust has anything to do with it.

figured it out, the damn turbo is junk. seals are shot, must have sat around the warehouse for awhile. damn thing is spraying oil out the exhaust port. guys at turbonics are real good, sending me a new one, dont even have to ship in the old one.

they dont, but if a turbo sits on a shelf for too long the seals can get dry rot. and i meant to say turbonetics.

you really are retarded. ok let me put it in terms even a 10 year old can understand. the seals inside a turbo are made of rubber. when rubber sits in a dry area for too long it cracks correct? ok so when you put on a turbo that sat on a shelf for to long in a dry warehouse in cali, no humidity, the seals will not hold up to the oil pressure cause there dry rotted causing oil to spray out the spindle. this is the second time this has happened to me in my life. once again @!#$ happens.

i was under the impression turbos weren't supposed to see oil PRESSURE, just what is basically a trickle of oil...

Funny, we have gearboxes at work that sit on the shelf forever and don't have the seals go bad from dry rot. Sounds to me more like something wasn't installed properly rather than it be a turbo problem. But, if you're gonna send you a new one and not ask for the old one back, then lucky you.

is it so hard to believe that rubber can dry rot and crack? it happened and im getting a new turbo out of it. arguement done. i should have my turbo by tuesday and my set up back on the road within a hour or 2 of that. even if its not the seals, oil is blowing out the exhaust port spraying everywhere from the spindle. could just be a manufacture defect. once again, @!#$ happens. and there is oil pressure in your turbo, not much but enough to keep it consistently lubed. and stop saying i dont know what im talking about, i use to build turbos for the DOC. before he switched to flux compassators

Look here @!#$tard...turbo seals are NOT made from rubber, they are made from carbon. there was supposed to be an oil pressure reducer in the oil pressure line to the turbo because these seals are not designed to hold back the oil pressure your pump is making. I highly suggest you fix your @!#$ before you @!#$ up another turbo

You still don't know what you are talking about. Why don't you try to find a picture of one of these "rubber" seals that has "dry rotted" and prove me wrong.

If those things were rubber they'd be destroyed in an hour!

Not to mention you'd have to use a "saver seal" on the shaft everytime you blow one. Seen this on many axles.
