So i was just wondering what gauges you guys are using. what ones are better than others....AEM wideband vs Innovate. Boost/vacume(what company and why), and other gauges(oil, temp, water). thanks
and if you can recall the part numbers ex. Autometer #6107 is cobalt Boost vac 20 psi
It sounds like you are ready to spend a lot of money on some quality gauges. I think just about any of the upper-end gauges will work fine for you, and I've always liked Autometer's styling -I've heard a few complaints about Sunpro, but nothing serious.
I myself like building on a budget, and have tested some of the cheaper gauges over the years. Stay away from the gauge-packs at Wal-Mart if you only want to install the thing once (they can be a little hit-and-miss on quality, and the newer the worse from them. I've had an Ammeter melt-down and an oil-pressure gauge (mechanical) seep a little, although that gauge is still serviceable after ~three years in service), on the other hand, the warranty is good and the price is low.
I have a boost gauge in my Z-24 from J.C. Whitney that I bought several years ago (I don't know if they sell the same one anymore), and it looks/works great except for the needle resting about 1-psi below the 0-point when the engine is off (in essence, my turbo is producing about 1 psi more boost than the gauge reads). I have an identical gauge in one of my Berettas (3.1 Intercooled Turbo V-6), and it has worked flawlessly for several years. I paid ~$15 each for them.
I also have a Beretta GTU with a supercharged 3800, and I put a set of 7-color white-faced gauges from Harbor Freight (Yeah, I know, I know) in it this summer, including tach, electric oil psi, and mechanical boost/vacuum. The tach was defective, so I swapped it out (warrantied). $20 each, what do you expect?
But other than the one bad tach, they've been working great and look good.
I don't think a gauge has to be expensive to look good or work right, but if you can afford the money, and that is your priority, then there is nothing wrong with making sure you have the kind of quality you are paying for. I know this wasn't really specific, I appologize if it isn't helpful to anybody, it is just my opinion based on my experience.
hell ill take that. good, thank you for your opinion
any others want to put their info/ opinion on here.....any thought would help. Thnks in advance!!!!
What kind of mounting are you thinking about for your add-on gauges? The pillar-pods are great, high visibility and very clean looking install explains their popularity.
My gauges are mounted in a custom pod in the center of the dash (the cover needs to be put back together right now, but the gauges work fine), and are very visible too.
Surprised nobody has mentioned glowshift, I've heard good things and their new elite series has some pretty awesome features. I've always wanted a set of their gauges, but always end up spending the money somewhere else.

Above is a good source for pods/pillars etc.
As far as gages - they have always had some inexpensive gages, but I see they have stepped up and have a wideband in the typical price range $200 that you would expect to pay for a good bosch sensor.
As for the quality - I can only vouch for the Pillar - fit nicely in my car. Heck - they're 20% off right now until Nov. 23rd. couponcode "Pod20"
My gages are AEM/Greddy/AutoMeter. However, if I were on a real budget, I would try em. You could always check the calibration on them if you were really worrried.
Looking back - did I pay a bit too much for mine - possibly.
I do have a pillar pod gauge that is in my closet. as for gauges i have bought through out the years i had an oil pressure and A/F from autometer, BUT sold them with my prelude. As for the info i have gotten on here, i do appreciate the time and knowledge so thank you all.
Any other ppl with gauges and their stories.....
