New pistons for turbo...
Tuesday, July 14, 2009 5:15 AM
Im hoping to turbo in the next month or two and of course will want to put in new bottom end internals; rods/pistons. Im gonna go with the eagle rods and im planning on keeping the compression stock. My question is, I have 80k miles on the engine so would getting the .020 overbore be a good idea or should I just get stock size?

Actually gonna go with 8.9:1...but the question still applies.

depends on how the cylinder walls look, I bet if anything you would be fine with a hone and stock sized pistons but I'd check with your engine builder/ machine shop.

Turbo lag is a courteous head start

I put 189k on my motor and ran synthetic all that time. I went 0.020" over and it barely needed it. So if your miles were mixed and not all in town, you should be fine with stock size and hone. I suggest checking with a micrometer when you tear down - check the hone condition. Then decide on what you want to order. Talk to a machine shop or qualified engine builder for their opinion as well and then you'll have a couple good opinions.

Yeah what all of those guys said. I beat the the hell outta my motor before i built it and my bores where still it great shape. But i went oversized any ways. I have some new diamond pistons for sale in the classifieds if you have not bought any yet
