I see that there are many pulleys available.
I get the jist that the smaller it is, the more boost you get.
I hear on the 2.2 Ecotec many people went with the 3.00" pulley supposedly because the 2.80" does not work so well with the GM reflash.
So, just curious, because I am in the market, which pulley is best for someone with the list of mods I have.
I just want the car as a daily driver using 91 octane as in AZ that is the most they got unless I go to the track to fill up or get octane boosters, of which on both I don't want to do.
Is there any really good reason for someone to really back off the boost with a 3.40" pulley?
I am a noob on this, so please don't flame.
I could be wrong and it is a very miniscule difference.

* 2 1/4 inch turbo muffler
* 2 1/4 piping to a 2 1/2 inch resonator
* 2 1/4 inch catalytic converter
* 2 1/2 inch down-pipe
* a match ported 4:2:1 RK Sports 'clone' header
* an AEM true cold air intake NOPI edition
* 8 gauge ground wire kit
* Toyz front strut brace
* Vibrant rear strut brace
* and Russell stainless steel brake lines all around.
If you have no plans of getting HPT and tuning another ECU(reflash locks your stocker) i personally would go with a 3.0. If you want to do your own custom tune then i wouldnt go any lower than a 2.8. Any smaller and you start to overspin the blower.

I appreciate the info.
I am going to have the stock GM reflash done.
Any reason someone would go bigger than a 3.00" pulley?

Less power and a little more reliability. I have a 3.1 instead of a 3.0 because i got a very good deal on the 3.1.

Keep in mind the stock pulley is 3.34"
you wouldnt really overspin the blower if you went with a 2.8" or 2.7" but you may be pushing it if you went any smaller and also it would become less efficient because you would have to run less timing and it would generate more heat. you could get the dual pass endplate for additional cooling, but im not sure how far you could go with that.
im running a 3" right now with 42# injectors. my IDC is between 90-95% at ~6900rpm. i ran the 3" with the gm tune, i maxed those injectors near 5800 i think, since thats when it starting leaning out.. i believe that was the reason my fuel pump went.. 3.1 may be safer but its your call
i use zzperformance.com for pulleys and stuff, i have their modular pulley system and 3". works well for me.

Yeah, mine is starting to lean out at higher rpm's to. I bought a racetech F-body fuel pump, hopefully that helps.
tom email me that fake 2.5 bar tune of yours and ill get it working for ya, wont be perfect but you should be able to use your histograms to get the fuel tables tuned.

So basically, if I really wanted to play it safe, I should get a 3.25" or 3.40" pulley as it is a daily driver and I can only get 91 octane around here.
I know it will run on 91, but I feel like from what I have heard is there is hesitation as the computer is basically trying to do its thing to prevent predetonation/ pinging.
Is a 3.25" or 3.40" pulley going to need a different tune than the stock GM reflash?

the stock pulley it around the same size as the 3.4 so there would be no point switching it, just go with a 3.1" pulley and u would be fine there are lots of ppl running 3.0 and 3.1 but if u wanna play it safe just run the 3.1" tinkles has the same pulley and is make 10 psi and he has a heat exchanger as well.
Like krazy said, i am maxing out at 10 psi on the 3.1. I havent had the stock pulley on my setup so i cant vouch for it, but the 3.1 feels very nice.
The 3.1 is safe to run with the GM reflash. If your worried about a pulley not being able to be handled by the reflash, then i wouldnt go any lower than a 3.0.
My recommendation is a 3.1. Its well within what the reflash can handle, plus it makes decent power.

if you can only get 91, use the 3.1 unless you dont mind putting octane boost in every tank. i would go with a 3.1 if you are concerned about reliability.
im peaking at 14psi @ 7000 rpm on the 3.0" but is around 13 normally

Has anyone asked if he plans on running meth yet? Ill be set up with a 2.9 pulley with meth and the cobra/lightning setup when i get mine on. I am not thinking I will have any problems.
You need a custom tune for meth, its not a "bolt on and go" mod.

It can work with the gm flash though. If IRCC, the meth kit has a module to tune. It is a progressive kit, that can be "tuned" by itself.
So the meth kit adjusts the timing all my itself?

NO Tinkles, it wont adjust timing. You are correct. But for how it will be setup and used on my car, there wont be a lot of timing issues. The person who had it on before me (californiadoestics) had the meth all set up with the reflash, (can't tune the reflash) and was pulling 250 hp.
With the reflash I basically have a the alky kit for reliability.
Tom, So you are running the reflash?
IMO its kinda pointless to run water/meth with the GM reflash since you are at 10.0 AFRs anyway and its not going to give you any more timing, progressive kit or not. it may reduce intake air temps by a little but it will do more harm than good. when i dyno'd the gm tune on the 3" pulley with a plugged PCV system i hit 238whp and when i plugged the meth back in i lost 6-8hp, it was around 230-232whp.
i put my 300cc nozzle back in last weekend and ended up advancing my timing by 3-4 degrees, might be able to squeeze 1 more out of her but i havent tried yet, going to work on the 110 octane tune for this weekend.
tom, PM me your mods and injector size, etc and ill see if i can put together a tune for you this weekend if you dont get a chance to email me your fake 2.5 bar one to tweak.

how much would a premade tune run a fella?
EVOFire {DesertTuners} wrote:Tom, So you are running the reflash?
Running the reflash for now, but I have hptuners, I'm having trouble tuning it, it runs good for a while until it warms up then the afr's go super rich.
i found why you go so rich, workin on your tune right now for 42lb injectors, ill adjust it for 36 after im done, but i would recommend putting those 42lb injectors in asap since you are working that fuel pump pretty hard. keep it under 5800 so you dont burn out a pump like i did
im pretty much merging our tunes, i used my fuel maps with your spark maps, since timing advance may be different on each individual setup, ill send you an email with everything, along with some of my histograms

oh forgot to mention that the tunes i sent were for 3" pulley, not sure if you mentioned you had the 3" or stock. sig says 3" so i assumed, but i want to double check
