At the moment my ghettoized oil return is leaking like a muther so time to do it right, now I wanna buy some an fittings for the part that's attached to the oil pan, only thing is I can't figure out how the sizes go. For instance there -10an and -12an, can anyone explain this to me? I'm looking to do my return in one inch so if anyone can tell me war an that is thatd be great thanks guys!
6an is 3/8"
8an is 1/2"
but to convert an to inch just divide by 16
so 6an = 6/16" = 3/8"
So 8/16=0.5,10/16=0.625, 12/16=0.75? And so forth? The bigger the an number the bigger the diamerter is? I think ima go with a -12an anyone think this may be too big? I heard u should aways use the biggest oil return, right now I'm running a saab kit with the td04, I do have an oil restrictor on there so I don't know if getting a big oil return might hurt the turbo
im running -10 on my t3/t4 57 trim.
theres no such thing as too big of a return line. Read the book maximum boost. because theres no pressure on the return side, your only relying on gravity to remove oil from the turbo. in all retrospect, gravity sux at this job, so using the least restrictive return line is very important.
horsepower is the force that determines at what speed you hit the wall, torque is the force that determines how far you take the wall with you after you hit it.

-10AN or larger is ok. You want to be sure your return is above the windage tray so that the flow into the pan is not restricted by the oil in the pan. No bends or or sharp turns from the turbo the pan and it should work fine.

Heavy yea it is above the windage tray I just used a real ghetto method to do my return since it was like 3 in the morning when we were finishing up my turbo kit, we brazed a piece of 3/4 inch piping to the oil pan it worked for about two months fine but now its leaking like crazy, any ways would I be able to find some fittings and stuff I could use for my oil return let's say at lowes or home depot?
Somewhat, you could get 1/2 barbed fittings and high pressure fuel/coolant line which is what we did on my friends car. It worked fine, leaked a little but from the clamps cutting through the hose a little. He since got a cheap 10an braided kit from ebay which is what I recommend doing. If your an auto your gona need a 45* fitting and Id just buy a certain length of braided hose and do custom..its a pita on an auto.
I actualy have a new 10an bulkhead fitting if you dont feel like tapping the pan or have to weld on a bung.

Pegasus auto racing sells a lot of fittings and hoses. extreme psi has weld-in mild steel bungs for $6.00 but their shipping is like $20 minimum.
i ordered all mine from ATP, i welded an aluminum plate to the oil pan and tapped it for the oil drain fitting, be sure to use pvc paste instead of the tape.
Im looking at at oil return line from ebay thats 17" long, is that to long or just fine for going from the turbo to the oil pan? Heres a link to the oil line. O and i have a log style turbo manifold with a t04 turbo if that helps.
