I will need to drive 5 minutes or maybe 45 minutes to get to the dealership for the re-flash....After some talk with some buddies who have built and tuned tons of DSM's they know about boost, so i think this sunday were gonna install it!! Now I need to know what I have to do to it, to safely make it to the dealership....thanks guys for all your help!!

What are you installing? A super charger?
S/c's boost at every rpm. So no. dont drive it. Tow it.
and driving out of boost with a turbo is harder than you think. With the majority of the setups for our cars the turbos are small and spool as low as 1800 rpms
Also, just because your boost gauge isn't reading boost dosn't mean that your not "boosting".
Check with your insurance company. You might have free roadside. Or if you already have roadside have them come tow it.
Just tell them it wont start. If they ask you to try to start it, say no.
And if you cant do that, PAY FOR A TOW.
Your stock ecm wont be able to pull timing or get the a/f anywhere close.
Youll lean out and knock the crap out of your engine. You may not even notice it and think everything is fine, but really you could have significantly decreased the life of your engine.
Ya a supercharger, and I'll just pay for a tow then....

Don't pay for a tow.
First of all, the blower doesn't boost at all times. There is a bypass that lets the air go by at part throttle. This opens up when the vacuum goes down, so if you drive like a granny then it will be fine. That doesn't mean not going over a certain RPM... it means not giving it more throttle than absolutely necessary.
Now, on the LD9 kit, the bypass is easy to access so you can actually zip-tie it open and you won't see boost no matter what you do. I don't know how easy or possible this is with the Ecotec kit though. Someone with knowledge of it will have to chime in.
Either way, you don't need a tow.
How much did it cost you to have that S/C put on?
How much did your car cost?
How much does a 5 mile tow cost? maybe $30
Think about it.

you're dumb
drive to the dealership.....
Yea just drive it if its not far. Or, I know with the ld9 you can get the flash done without the sc, just bring the 2-bar map sensor to put it in as soon as you get the flash done and the car will drive fine.
drove my car to the dealer 5 minutes away when i got my reflash, installed 2-bar in the dealership parking lot after it was reflashed. I had no problems I just drove like a grandma and kept my eye on the boost gauge.
if there is a way to manually open the bypass, thats your best bet.

yes, stick a peice of wood in to keep it open, its just spring loaded
and the guy saying not to drive i wrong, very wrong especially when most tow truck hook up fees are over 50 dollars

Ah yes. I forgot this detail. I also brought the new sensor to the dealer and installed it when the flash was done.
yea your fine your not going to make boost, its not a turbo lol. unless you get on it your not going to make boost.
so drive it there.
alright well im gonna hold the valve open and drive slowly to the dealership 5 min away.....
any objections?

To all those people talking smack about my post.
Your cheap bastards....
Dont be a cheap ass and do it right. Pay for a tow.
Call the dealership and ask them what they think you should do.
I've got $100 that says they'll tell you to tow it.
Of course some smart ass is going to say how the dealer and I are dead wrong, wrong, wrong and wrong.
But who are you going to trust?
Backyard bob? Stick a piece of wood in the bypass?
Or a Certified machanic at a dealership?
Lmao. If your putting a s/c on your car I would hope you have the $50 for a tow.
Unless thats going to break your bank.
In that case you should'nt have put the s/c cuz you wont be able to afford gas now.
Lmao I can't believe I'm even having this conversation.
I had mine towed 5 miles to the stealership.
Not saying you should but I believe the install manual says to not drive until it's flashed.
It''s your car, do what you want.
Labrat
Drove mine 2 weeks ago for 15 minutes to the dealership, just stay off the heavy foot and no worries!!!

Awesome classy post.
Judging by your urge to post like a complete tool I'm going to turn the table and call you a cheap bastard and bet $100 my kit was still warrantied despite me driving it.
Before you sling names, know the function of a bypass valve! .......BTW m
echanic is spelt with an "e" there Backyard Bob
.
Thanks for playing.

you are a dumb ass. a five minute drive making no boost is not going to harm the vehicle. some people don't like to throw away money, especially to towing companies.
87 Firebird
All stock...........lol.
i drove mine 45mins to get my re-flash it ran just fine
It runs rich...that's it.
Don't hammer it. If you have gauges, use them as you drive. Stay out of boost, if you can look at your air/fuel ration and see it leaning out. Get off the gas.
Otherwise, just drive it, don't accelerate quickly, don't give it a lot of throttle, if you have to be a jackass and drive 50 on the interstate like I did....fine. Do it.
Don't listen to this NeedTurbo guy. Listen to those of us who have done it.

I never was listening to him.
The darn instructions on the Eco kit tell you you can drive it short distances, it even tells you which wire to leave un hooked until after the flash is done...
stay off the skinny peddle and the car will run pig rich till you get there...
