2200 Top feed Injectors/ 95 PCM
Tuesday, August 29, 2006 3:44 PM
Hey, just looking for some insight for my future mods. I am using a 2200 head on a 95 2.2 block. I know the fuel injectors have the same plugs connectors, and the newer injectors have a lower ohm reading, like 2 ohms or so, and the 95 injectors have 11 ohms or so...am I gonna be ok using the 95 pcm? Or do I need a different chip etc? Or a 2000 2200 pcm? but what about the security etc...Help plz

Thanks in advance.

Better be sure about fitment between block and head before diving into this.

The combustion chambers and ports are different between the two heads. Spark requirements and volumetric efficiency will be different. The car may run but won't be at it's best with the stock 95 file. There is a file from Tunercat to tune the 95 pcm yourself.

You don't need (or want) to use the low impedance injectors from the later engine. You want to use high impedance injectors with the correct flow. If you change the flow rate, that's one more item which you'll need to account for in the process of retuning the pcm.

Dunno about security.

Do you have MSN? I would like to talk to you more about this, for some more insight. Add me if so. The_mark_man@hotmail.com

Thanks again man.

No MSN. Sorry. Old School, email only.

I was reading up on tghe injector styles, and found that 95 have 11-12.4 ohms, 98 have 1-2.3, and 01 have 11-14 ohms...i wanna use my 95 pcm for now, untill i have the fmu, and boost controller. I just wanna get my built engine into the car and running. If I can't use the top feed injectors on the 2200 head with the 95 pcm...can I some how use the bottom feeds? or can I upgrade the pcm to the 98 pcm? what is involved with the security? Anyone?

You can use top feed injectors with the 95 pcm, just not the 98 low impedance units. Approximately 12 Ohms is a standard value for "high impedance" top feed injectors. The Look for injectors which flow approximately 18 lbs/hr fuel for a slightly larger replacement. They should be cheap. Many of the 5.0L tpi and some of the 2.8/3.1 pfi engines use similar sized injectors.

You are going to need larger injectors anyway. You might be able to install correctly sized injectors and an adjustable FPR to bring the actual injector flow close to the stock level.

Thanks alot man. I appreciate your time. Now I need to sell my 98 Fuel rail and injectors.

You might want to hold on to the rail unless you have another one to replace it. Not all rails have the same dimensions.

im pretty sure a 2200 head will not fit on a 2.2 block... the water ports dont match up

Hey slow.

Are the ford red or brown tops high impedance units?

I'm ready to do my top feed conversion which includes a modified throttlebody, and i need injectors my 95 pcm can handle.

Or how about this. i have a set of 450cc injectors from a 92 Eagle Talon complete with resistor packs, is there a way to use these?

holy old thread batman!!

I like how you pull a 2 year old thread out like you were carrying on a conversation with the poster....lol

lol yeah that is an old thread!!
Mr.Smyth if you have a multimeter you can test the resistance on them.

When in doupt, grub.

I am using the stock 19lbs/hr that came in i think the 99 or 2000 2200 in my 95 2.2

Just make sure they are the same high impedance ones with a multimeter. (it will drop quickly after you touch both contacts) so just touch it multiple times, and if it goes above or around 10, then you probably have high impedance injectors.

because the side feed ones are 17lbs/hr, i lower the fuel pressure some to compensate. Car drives fine.
