MAP Wiring Problem / Ecotec S/C Problem
Tuesday, December 18, 2007 3:38 PM
I've had more than a few problems with my car this past week. With the cold weather the car seems to be acting up. I don't think my I/C is circulating fluid...but that's besides the point. What first started as a tiny misfire at slight acceleration and highway cruising (found here http://www.j-body.org/forums/read.php?f=40&i=144706&t=144706 ) which seems to be going away somewhat (so i'm thinking maybe just some bad gas or something). But today i was poking around under the hood, and i lifted up the map harness and the car almost stalled then the rpm jumped up to about 1500 then settled. Upon more fooling with the harness, it would do it all the time, almost stall, high idle and just plain randomness. So I jump into my car to drive to work, and the thing bogs like crazy (like the problems found here http://www.j-body.org/forums/read.php?f=40&i=135188&t=135188 ) I can barely get on the highway, my idle is messed and when I hit it, I made 12psi but the car didn't go anywhere, just no power whatsoever...so about 800 expletives later, i get off the highway, pull into the parking lot fiddle around with the harness again. Not knowing wtf to do, I jump in my car, not wanting to be late for work...and presto! the little bastard runs fine...actually better than fine...pulls like an animal. Upon getting to work and parking the car, the idle is still a little high (about 12-1300 rpm).

I was really close to replacing plugs, boots and 02 sensors because of the misfiring...but now I'm thinking i'll hold off and see if this leads anywhere.

I'm not really sure where I'm going with this, but the guys that were having this problem before...possible place to start looking? I've run 94 octane in the car since the blower was installed and haven't had any problems up until this. I'm going to check the wiring tomorrow and see what happens...just wondering if anyone else has run into this or has any suggestions.

is the wiring fromt he kit? or did you make it?

try unplugging in and hooking it up to see if its got any shorts, check the tightness of it in the connector.

ive been having the same problems, but it was mostly bad gas/ No gas

^ Yeah, I didn't like your Texas gas.

To the OP, are all the connections secure?

I'm going to check in the AM...working nights this week and didn't have time to check before work. Car ran great on the way home...misfires probably just bad gas (the cheap person in me talking) haven't had any for about 2 days. Fiddled with the harness again when i got home and it did the same thing...i'm hoping just a loose connection.

sorry, i was just a little bit mad...basically, the car was fine for a few days, ran great...then tonight when i'm trying to run around and finish my xmas shopping, it's goes back to making no power, you can hear the blower whining but the motor is quiet and makes no power...so i started playing with the harness...checking all the wires etc couldn't find anything, didn't change anything, but some how made it worse. the car will stall now if i play with the harness enough...couldn't get it above 90km/h on the highway...and the thing makes boost at like 2500 rpm with light throttle and just wants to die. if i even give it a tiny bit of gas the motor knocks around like crazy...i'm at a loss...

I haven't installed my kit yet, but this is the connection in which you have to alter the pining in something correct? Could it be possible its corroded or you have a bad MAF sensor or idle air control valve?

Are you running the gm reflash with a 2 bar Map? 0r hpt?

Check the pins in the connector. Maybe one is pushed in.

i pulled the harness apart and checked all the wires leading to it and around it. I connected the wires without the harness and nothing changed....i may try and just wire them straight together...right now it just seems to get worse everytime i start it...it's undrivable at the moment...

clogged cat ftl....actually, the inside of the cat was melted, when they pulled it off tons of ash and pieces of the honey comb poured out. Car ran like ass at first so i unhooked the battery for about an hour took her for a spin and she's good as new...charger screams all the way up to 12 psi
