Friday, December 14, 2007 10:20 PM
ok i have a delima i hate my exhaust very very raspy, so im in hunt for a bad ass sounding exhaust, at this point i will take stupid loud if it gets rid of the raspyness, right now im running a glasspack for a res. and a 18" magnaflow muffler with a 3.5" tip......

Run a straight through style cat as a res, and if you want a straight through style muffler go with a greddy ti muffler or something similar. It might sound stupid but a greddy ti muffler made an n/a cav almost sound like a wrx or srt4 with absolutely no rasp, and that was even will a full header back exhaust.Im sure getting rid of that magnaflow and switching to something else would make the sound much better alone.

Or if you dont mind, use some kind of turbo muffler or some flowmasters.

flowmasters.... should read NO flow master.

with high(er) compression, it may be hard to get rid of it, a dynomax or mangaflow will mellow it out some...

but really, it is a 11 sec non team sponsored car... what did you want, LN2 sound?

Brandon, is your Magnaflow muffler a round or oval style? I've noticed that the Magnaflow oval mufflers seem to be much quieter. I'm not sure it will fit (might be too long) but i have my eye on Magnaflow part # 12579 for my own car.

My friend uses these exact mufflers on his Marauder with a full exhaust consisting of Kooks long tube headers, all 2.5" mandrel pipe, no cats (4 cats stock), X-pipe, and the Magnaflow mufflers mentioned above. His car is as quiet as it was stock!

see i was looking at all your popular brands last night: hks, greddy, and apex-i, and i was really wanting to buy a apex world sport 2 muffler but i dont think it will fit, because of the rear bumper support beam, and i think the only way i could fit a round muffler i would have to do a angle up, i thought brian spdrcrs car sounded pretty badass with out rapsyness and all he had was straight piping and a ebay muffler. i was orginally wanting a more stock look/sleeperish but i just cant stand the way the car sounds, i think it sounded better with the apex n1 turbo muffler, almost thought about doing a elec cutout, and running 2.5 exhaust with lots of baffling

jeremy this is the muffler i have on the car

Nothing wrong with an LN2 sound... No rasp here and it sounds like a V8 at idle... Matter of fact Brandon even told me he was jelous of my exhaust

I dont know how well it will work on a ld9...

but my car doesnt even have a muffler.... just the longest resonator i could get under there... i wanna say its 24"

Its loud as hell, but i dont hear the rasp...

the idea is to try and get as much tailpipe after the muffler as possible...

maybe try a longer resonator first...

my magnaflow kit sounded really nice with a 18 inch resonator before the dc sport header... with cat delete it still has a lil rasp left but a high flow cat is on the way so it should take care of it... but very nice throaty sound to it.... love it

The trick is to have mufflers and resonators as long as possible. I have a 18 inch long magnaflow resonator and a 28 inch long magnaflow oval muffler. I also have a few inches of piping after the muffler. i dont even have a snail to chop up the sound and i love the way my car sounds.

i HAD a borla muffler on my 2.2 cav. no rasp at all.Sounded pretty good and wasn't to loud at all, unless you rev-ed it up.I want to say that it sounded like the borla sound clip thats on their website in the sport compact section.Yet it didn't sound quite as good as that... but still good.

Now i'm going to a 3A racing muffler cause that's whats on the car i'm buying, seeing as how i wrecked my cavalier and it's nearly stripped of everything.

From all my experiences mufflers with packing in them have nice deep tones. Over all metal mufflers that seem to give the rasp. The greaddy evo body mufflers are probably my favorite to work with. Nice tone well built and look good at the same time. Ive also noticed more bends and larger diameter resonators kill the rasp. While more piping after the mufflers and glass-pack style mufflers add the rasp.

I'm just running a 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 downpipe, and a 27" OAL 2 1/2 cherry bomb glasspack that exit's right underneath the car. Loud as fukk but no rasp.

The biggest resonator you can possibly fit in there helps kill the rasp.

I'm using the longest Magnaflow resonator I could fit, with a Hooker Aerochamber muffler and tip. that's on 2.5" Custom Tubes piping. no rasp here.

I need to get rid of the raspyness on mine, sounds good just driving around but when I nail the gas it gets very raspy, I have full 2.5inch with the cobalt ss resonator and two mufflers and i still cant seem to get rid of it. You think if I switch to bigger exhuast it would go away?

sorry to jack thread

I had the same problem when I first put the turbo on, "Loud as Hell" and had that raspy decel and poping. It was because I had a straight threw exhaust, no converter and a Magna Flow cat back set-up and those Magna Flow mufflers are a straight threw design. I installed a Dynomax High Flow converter and it took both problems away !!
