Im talking about the GMPP supercharger, and I wanted some of you guys' opinions on it....Installation time? New WHP estimate? I just have a K&N intake now and from a stop i get hardly any wheelspin when floored (auto), will i have lots of wheelspin? Were you satisfied with theperformance of it?? suprised??

are you referring to the m45 kit for the ld9 or the m62 kit for the l61?

It would be the m62. The older gmpp kit for the 00-02 had the m45. The m62 is the better of the two superchargers. I have not installed an ecotec kit but I would say it should notbe to hard since it comes with step by step directions. Whp depends on so many things it is hard to say. You should definatly be able to spin tires with this kit.

I thought he asked for direct reviews? Also, if you haven't put the kit in, how do you know how hard it is?

I have put in 3 of these chargers, and I can assure you it is plenty more difficult than the LD9 kit. There are a LOT more parts and a lot more things that need changed/moved around... and the instructions truly suck. If you don't have A/C on your car - you need the a.c compressor just for the pulley. Found that out the hard way!

Highlights:

-Grind the timing chain cover to make way for the tensioner
-Wire in map and IAC sensor to create t-map sensor using new plugs that need to be inserted into the socket. This sucks.
-New rad hose which = coolant fun.
-Directions that, at some points, make NO sense.
-3 billion tiny nuts/bolts/parts that, at times, dont' look like what's in the installation manual. Some things seem to be put on in the wrong order, also.
-A bitch of a tensioner to finish off the job when you put the belt on. Took us 45 mins to figure out how to use it - we ended up going against our better judgement and carefully using a prybar to push it down slowly while finishing off the belt.

Although installation isn't "easy", it's not impossible. People with limited experience have put it in over the course of a few days and been successful with it. Gains are immediately noticable and anybody that has done this mod has asked themselves how they even drove a j-body without it. Lots of fun and lots of power.

I believe Phlatcav layed out around 220-230 whp with this kit as a bolt-on with a few supporting mods? Many people have run their cars down the 1/4 mile and gotten their times down to about a 14 flat. For the money that's damn decent.

Either way, it has tons of potential (with limits) and is a package that comes with everything you need to install it. If you want something reliable and somewhat inexpensive, it's a perfect kit for you.

Good luck in your decision.

for an automatic I think it is a great decsion. I have both a turboed cavalier and a sunfire convertible that is supercharged. the cavalier is standard and the sunfire is automatic. I think if you were standard go with a turbo setup but sense you are auotmatic I would go with the supercharger.

ah to add on.

with my girlfriend driving "her car" the sunfire ran 15.1 and that was with a 25 mph head wind. and the only mod was the supercharger. here is a video of one of the races not her fastest but you can see how she does against a fully built cavalier. she got a really nice jump with no wheel spin but she didn't launch it as well so I don't know. but it's a good start I am finishing the exhaust and a smaller pulley and dual passs intercooler for it and we will have it on the track on the 16th of december so I will have an update

installation is easy. get some friends together and just go to town. the instructions aren't as bad as people make them out to be. if you run into problems during the install you can hop on here and someone will be able to help you. don't pay a dealer to install it. i've seen people get raped on installation costs.

you'll definitely be able to spin the wheels, no question about it.

for hp numbers, most people are seeing close to 200 whp with just the blower. if you have supporting bolt-ons, you'll probably see a good bit more. i'm giving you these numbers based on what i've seen posted on here. phlatcav put down 240ish with full bolt-ons and the 2.9" pulley i believe. thats really impressive for an auto.

its definitely worth it performance wise. it takes a car that runs low 16s/high 15s stock and drops you down to low 14s if you can get traction. its definitely fun and the blower whine is awesome. boost is addicting

I loved my Cavy before the charger but I'd marry this damn car now!! LOL!!!

The M62 can and does make the 2.2 Ecotec come alive like it should have been from the factory! The extra power is not extreme by any stretch of the imagination but it is a hoot to drive now. Average gains I've seen posted here are around 200hp with nothing but the charger and upwards of 225 with all the bolt ons. (never dyno'd mine)

I cut a full second on my 1/4 mile times with the charger...15.2 with all the bolt ons and this past summer 14.2 with the charger added (and new exhaust system).

Install was not hard at all and I'm not exactly mechanically inclined! Got a couple other J owners together the night before and we all got smashed that night and then woke up at 9 or so and had it about 75% done on day one (thanks Chris and Pat!). Finished it up the next day by myself (after I found the spacers I misplaced).

Heat exchanger is a must in my mind. The intake temps will go down nicely and that's good for a little more hp. Also, drop down to two stage colder plugs.

Wheel spin is as easy as pie for me...but I do have a 5-speed. Rev to 5K and dump the clutch and I can sit in the same spot for about 5 second before the Cavy even thinks about moving forward!

Overall well worth the price I think. I wanted something that I didn't have to tune on all the time and the SC is exactly that. I plan to build the motor next winter and shoot for 300 whp...so I think the potential is there but you will reach a level when the charger will peak and if more paower is wanted, turbo is the answer.

My car is a show car more than anything and I won't be going turbo...just this SC and a nice port and polish to make it nice and pretty along with some engine internal, head cams, alky injection!

Have fun and if you need some help post up here as these guys (and gals) will help and do help!

Eh...old man with a Corvette now...it was bound to happen sooner rather than later right?

reading this has given me great interest in this s/c where exactly can i see one for purchase online?
Re: supercharger review

for me it was actually easier than i had expected the install 2 b. the directions have a few places where there could b more clarity. but its pretty much straight forward. gains all depend on what mods are done. the charger has great pull off the line and traction does become an issue. i have the zzp 3.1 pulley, he, aem cai, 2.25" cat-back and with a manual have gotten a personal best of 14.24@100mph on stock 14" steelies. of course i didnt get much traction but for the little bit of mods i was very impressed with the results. i should b in the range of 220-230hp.

I like my eco charger.
With the 3.0 pulley in first gear, if you step on it above 75% throttle it will spin the tires. 2nd gear I have no straight line traction issues.

GMPP L61 Buil Book CH1 Just follow the link and it has instructions on installing the supercharger starting on page 27. GM Tuner Source is great, they have the build books for download, I wish I knew about it before I bought them.

I have an automatic Eco with the s/c. Couldn't be happier with the modification route I decided to go with. Best bolt-on you could ever buy, and having a 2005 model Sunfire like me and keeping your warranty is a huge plus. I can pretty much spin the entire first gear if I decide to, and on my winters it was like driving on ice when the actual asphalt was dry. Even with my Azenis RT-615 I can spin them on the launch but I don't so I can have the best durability possible.

I went 14.24 @ 96.5mph with the M62 s/c, motor mounts and D/R mounted on the stock 14'' steelies. No suspension, no exhaust line, no CAI, basically no power mods other than the s/c. It was close to 0.5 sec better than what I was ecpecting to run. Best move ever it was for me to get that kit, wakes up big time the automatic Eco and surprises bunch of people.

Does the GM charger come with a CD that you bring to a dealership to have them reflash your computer? Or do they have the flash on their systems?
