oversized crank pulley issue!!!
Monday, November 12, 2007 9:54 PM
ok so we are installing the gm charger on my 01 sunfire gt. finally get it in and we are also installing the oversized crank pulley

first the pully wouldn't go on because the keyway wasn't wide enough...got it working though for now. but after we got it in and start the car it is screaching extreamly loudly

right now im holding a handful of shavings from the pulley because a screw is sticking out and grinding the inside out

i don't remember the guy who was making these but something is wrong here...what did the rest of you guys do and did you have any issues

If I'm weird and everyone else is weird, does that make me normal?

When I made my first batch of prototype LD9 cranks I had to redesign them, slightly, because on some LD9 motor there was an extra long screw directly in the path of the turning pulley. My first pulley face had to be moved .100" to clear this. There where no issues on any of the other motor years. 00-02 motors have the extra long screw...if I remeber correctly. This was not case on all motors of those years...just some. The same problem almost bit me in the ass when I put the prototype on a friends 01 grand am.

Heres a link to the posts about the oversized cranks that Racetech and McFly made/sold.

yea...we ran it for a while and then eric took a screw driver to it to grind a little more off

just pisses me off though cause you hope a little more testing goes into some of the parts you buy

I can not say for others, but I rather take forever for one of my products to be produce, and know it is right, or believe it to be....than have one that could cause problems. Less headaches for me and my customers.

Now where did I put those quotes on all the new LD9, L61, and LN2 crank pulleys. Oh, yeah that Ecotec prototype .....hummm....muahahah!

Todd if you want it machined, I can get it fixed for you. Cheap!
PM me if interested.

I had the same issue with mine when I installed it, about 3 to 4 mins later it went away. I talked to RaceTech about it and they said they never had any issues like it.

lol...Got to love Racetech, good thing they are no longer in business. Just be happy that you are not running a 3800 with their aluminum flywheel....cost me 2 engines it did.

Todd,

Just FYI.........with the crank pulley and stock SC pulley I see 6psi from the start and 10psi from 5800 to 7k.

yeah i turned a craftsman screw driver into a lathe last night and made my own clearance

for what ever reason the key way , was super tight on the key , so i had to file it a little bit to help it slid over the key , also had to file the lip on the key way , cause when they cut the key way into the pulley it raised a lip in the crank surface , so i had to knock that down too

when the s/c was on my cav is see 5-7 psi to about 6200 and 8-10 psi with the meth , on the stock crank pulley
