Hi I would like to change my Eaton Supercharger for the Vortech Supercharger, for what I read this kit can give from 6 to 8 PSI and increase 80 hp, and the best thing is that it shines incredible, which are their opinions, friends??
well if you do id like to buy a few items from your m62 kit....from what i hear the centrifical chrger isnt really gonna do anymore than a roots, well the most obviuos difference is space.

Excuse it doesn't specify something my supercharger it is the Eaton M-45.
You were better off with the M45. I do not think you have any idea the can of worms you just opened up with that supercharger.

All I'm gonna say is....if it were that good of a unit, wouldn't more people be using it?

I had the vortech on my 2.4 and switched it for the m45. You'll be much happier keeping the eaton. I had a front mount intercooler on the vortech too, but the eaton I like a lot more. Especially since the boost from the vortech is som much more just top end. My suggestion to you would be to get a 2.6 pulley and a good alchy kit. Then maybe upgrade to the m62 on the ld9.

This is some good advice. Once you max out the potential of the m45 then upgrade to the m62.

I like mine but I,ve made alot of changes to make the kit work well. Who are you getting the kit from?
Thats Him Officer The WICKED One.
I love mine. But it would not be worth it for you to switch. I had an M45 supercharged Z24 and now I have a Vortech supercharged Ecotec. When I lost my Z24 I wanted to make similar power with my new car for about the same price I paid for my M45. The Vortech kit did just that. In all honesty the two kits would probably produce close to the same amount of power. You would essentially be trading red apples for green apples. Considering all the options you have to make more power through the M45 kit, I would have to agree with these guys and say stick with what you have and max it out with what's available.

How cheap can you get the vortec kits? I never even looked into them. I know they work well in the LSX applications.

Rob,
I bought my kit from RSM/Z-spec. They are very high priced but if you call and bargain with them they will drop the price down significantly. Their kit has given a few people headaches in the past, but I am one of the lucky ones who has had no issues with it. If you are considering purchasing one for your Ecotec, in all honesty you would be better off with the GM charger. The GM charger for the Ecotec is far superior to both the Vortech kit and the M45 2.4L kit. If you are considering a Vortech kit for your corvette, Z-spec does not have one. There are, however, many companies that do. Do some searching to find some notable companies that provide Vortech kits for the LSx. Chances are it will be very pricey but it could not hurt to contact these companies to try to work out a better price. Vortech units themselves are reliable, strong, and perform great. They are definitely a good choice.
Thank you friends for the information, will I keep my M-45 and i will add a 2.5" pulley and a good alky system, but does it intrigue me this like it could put on a M-62 in the LD9? honestly I don't see as, I believe serious q a great headache..
I have been wanting to look into the M-62 for my Alero for sometime. I like the M-45 but, the M-62 is a better charger. Has anyone done a M-62 on a LD9?
Talk to mike who posted above. As far as I know he makes a manifold to fit the M62 to the 2.4 however you will still need everything from the m45 kit, except the M45

what happens to these kits that makes them such a pain?
where can I buy one these vortech supercharged kit at?

Oil Leaking from the pulley drive housing.
Purchase of a belt, smaller than the one included in the kit, is necessary to obtain the boost levels advertised (in the case of the Ecotecs)
Lack of proper fuel modifications to accommodate boost ("Reflash" was found to be non-existent). You can, however, have a FMU included with the kit.
Coolant hose is dangerously close to the drive belt.
Some have had issues with the stability and durability of the belt tensoner.
Belts tend to wear out every 10,000 miles or so.
Very pricey considering the potential issues of the kit.
I have not had a leaky drive housing. Some others with the same kit also have not had this issue. Some have.
The proof of no changes to a "reflashed" computer was a devastating blow to the company's credibility. The FMU does work nicely, but is risky to use with no other fuel mods on boost levels greater than 6-7 psi.
I have yet to purchase a smaller belt to obtain more boost because I am satisfied with 5 psi and the power over stock it provides.
My coolant hose is pulled away from the belt with a large zip tie. I haven't had any issues.
Belt tensoner has also given me no issues.
I replace all my fluids, filters, and belts every year as routine maintenance when my car comes out of storage. So belts wearing out is also not an issue (at least in my case).
I paid significantly less than the asking price of the kit. I also have not had the issues other's have experienced. Ergo the kit was a "fair" buy for me (unfortunately it was not for several others).

But you should be fully informed. I cannot lie. Purchasing this kit from RSM/Zspec was a pleasant experience. They provided me with exceptional customer service. They went above and beyond what I expected and their kit did exactly what I wanted it to for the price I wanted. That having been said, they've done themselves in with their own actions. I cannot and will not condone the treatment and business practices that other's on here have been subjected to. You choose this kit at your own risk.
Ok, im one of those guys that HATE RSM RACING.
Ive got the kit, it still leaks from the drive housing after about 4 different seals ive tried.
Now i will say, it has performed well other than the oil leak. But that oil leak will really make you wish you had just bought a hahn kit for 200 dollars more if you own a ecotec.

The oil leak can be stopped simply by changing to Carquest #222540
I too recieved no reflash, I moved to 36lb Accel injectors and used HP tuners
My coolant hose was too close I covered with stainless braided cover and moved it with Zip ties
Heat was a problem, I added methanol injection
I changed to a 33inch Gatorback belt that worked nicely
BTW is Zspec still selling the stage 2 ecotec kit and if so how much? Also what is the price on the stage 1 kit now?

I've seen M45 setups do 13's in the 1/4. I still have YET to see a vortech thats done faster than a 15, MAYBE a high 14, and frankly, a stock base model J with an eco can do that. Since you have an M45 I assume naturally that you have a 2.4 motor, so hahn isn't going to help you, but I'd either stick with the M45 or go with a custom turbo setup. Even on other 4 cylinder cars, Vortech's make decent PEAK hp numbers, but when it comes to the midrange, which is much more important for racing, they come up short because the vortech takes the entire rpm range to go from zero to maximum boost. This is why you see cars like the Focus with a vortech make 220 hp but then only manage to pull off mid-high 14 second 1/4 mile runs (well, that and bad driving). I'd only ever recommend vortech's for v6's or v8's, they seem to respond much better to centrifugal superchargers than 4 cylinders do.

For a car to really be effective with a Vortech it would need a 8k redline or higher, in which case you would need a built motor and few are willing to do the time and money that costs
As stated you dont reach peak boost till about 6k and that doesnt leave alot of room for a power band even if you go up to 7000 rpm
typically shifting at 6500 will drop you down to about 4000, by raising my rev limiter to 7k and shifting there I was making 18 more hp at 4500 than I was at 4000, I also wasnt reaching max torque till 5800, I basically was racing with half boost and half NA for a powerband and thats just not going to be much faster than NA. Roots obviously provide alot better mid and low power and even if they give up power up top to a Vortech its still not enough to be overcome.
