I went to a local performance shop to get quoted on a price for turbo install and was quoted at 3grand for the turbo system and 2 grand for the install....ive checked the prices on the turbos and they dont seem to be that high, but the guy assures me that its because the kits werent complete.....if anyone knows if this price is in the ballpark id apprct it.

Terrible pricing. your best bet would be too look around online to order one, depending on what brand and where you buy it from you shouldnt have to spend 3g's for a turbo kit. but dont buy an ebay special either. make sure it is name brand. and as for the install, take it to somewhere else or find someone else around you with a turbo j and have them help you with it.

Did they tell you exactly what was included for that price? If you're getting a good GT series turbo, an equal-length stainless manifold, real external wastegate, real BOV, quality intercooler (most people here have never even seen one of these lol), stand-alone fuel and ignition management w/ tuning time, fit and welded charge pipes, tapped oil pan, and all the small stuff...that's a very good price. Believe it or not people, quality kits cost more than a couple grand when you can't do it yourself. Ask Fetter how much he would charge for a duplicate of his kit...
What's a Hahn kit cost? Exactly, and that's barely a decent kit.

Oh $#!T!!!! You've just incurred the wrath of 10 VSS mod questions, and a personal insult to a MOD. You're a dead man!!!!! LOL

Anyways, you can piece together a decent kit for around 2G's, and depending on how "universal" fi the kit is, you may have MAYBE $1K tops in fit and installation, plus tuning. Much more than that, and I'd be looking for a different shop.

I agree with OHV notec because of the 086 head I'm using noone made a turbo manifold so I had to do all custom for my setup and for the custom 321 stainless equal length turbo header, stainless 3"dp, Turbonetics 62-1 turbo - Racegate - Raptor BOV, Vibrant bar & plate fmic & piping, ebc, boost and wb afr gauges, 255 lph fuel pump, injectors afpr, 3" catback and HPT Pro, I've spent about $5500. So it aint cheap, but if someone makes a kit for your application which includes "everything" for $3000 then jump on it, now I think $2000 for the installation id steep.

I doubt this shop has turbocharged too many cavaliers in their day. So...of course the price is going to be high, they dont know what they will run into, they need to cover their a$$ too.

Maybe try and talk them into lowering the price of the labour and see what they say. But find out the injector size, turbo size/brand and find out if it will be dyno-tuned or just an fpr. Find out about a warranty on the turbo parts. They won't cover the motor, unless if they build it, but they should cover the kit if they are making it. If they are using high quality parts and are tuning it its a pretty good deal.

I want to share something with you - the three sentences that will get you through life. Number one, 'cover for me', Number two, 'oh, good idea, boss', Number three, 'it was like that when I got here.'

let's see for a decent turbo kit.

Trying to replicate my setup would beOVER $3000+ for the turbo "kit" aspect, plus fueling, not including the engine management/tuning aspect.

I would say $4000-4500 wouldn't be so bad if you're not doing any of the work yourself. There's a lot of fabrication involved.

Then you have to tell the client, well you're going to blow your clutch out soon with all that extra power, and then there's the headgasket which we should probably change for longevity of the motor somewhat.

If you buy a turbo KIT, then you are gonna spend over $3000 for the kit and then have someone install it or some friend to help you out if he got some welding tools...

But if your piece everything together, things should be alot cheaper... I wouldnt pay more then $500 for Installation, but thats me...

Dont need the FPR and probably the MAP sensor also right?

If you buy an internal gated turbo then you dont need to spend 200+ on a wastegate...

Buy the HRC Stage 2 kit and install it with a friend or two and some basic hand tools.

Total cost: Around $4K-4500 (plus beer and food)
HP after: ~220WHP on 8PSI
Total Install Time: 6-8 hours
Ease of Install (1-10 with1 being uber newb easy): 5 or 6 with a few 7s

GO FOR IT!

It's still going to be over $3000 in the end amazing.
Welding rod isn't free, neither is the gas for the welder. you're also forgetting, new oil pan gasket, new coolant, new oil, new oil filter, new fuel filter while you're effing around under the car

There's more than $500 worth of labor when it comes to putting together a good turbo setup, easily.

Well, for me, i've been reading ALOT, like i've been reading for about 2 weeks about what fits and what doesnt, and what part goes where an what other part goes where...

So i went to this autobody shop and ask him if he can "help" me installing my turbo... which i will be installing the turbo setup with him helping me cutting, welding, and bending some pipings because i dont have access to those tools at home... And i will have ALL the parts ready to be installed...

Now thats what i asked him and he only charged me $300 to help me install the whole kit... thats a weekend of work, some nuts & bolts he has around the shop, welding, bending, cutting, and 2 extra experienced hands...

Im happy...
