it makes your life a lot easier but you can do it with a fuel pressure regulator also. but without either your car may burn lean or rich. I would recommend you put one of the two on.

as long as you set up your regulator right you should be fine.

Well...

A FMU is basically a Rising Rate Fuel Pressure Regulator that is adjustable (well depending on which type of FMU you get).

What are you boosting with? As in what kind of compressor are you using (I'm assuming a turbo setup).

Are you purchasing a wideband?

What size fuel pump are you using and what size injectors do you have?

whats the best fmu to buy? ive heard the adjustable one is where its at for sure, just not sure on a brand.

also... whats the ratio usually used to set up with boost? how much psi does it raise per pound of boost?

I think what Shifted is trying to say is that you really need to get rid of your stock injectors.

3-5 PSI should use a minimum of 310cc injectors on a standard T3 or T3/T4 system.
Cartech is one of the best FMU manufacturers, you can find used ones for $100 or less.

You can find used 310cc injectors for $125 or less, plus $100 for an FMU for a total of $225 to keep the engine in one piece. A RRFPR does not work as a boost tuning device since it only raises fuel pressure 1psi per psi of boost. You could set it to the richest setting and be alright in boost, but blow black smoke and have terrible gas mileage and performance before you hit boost...

On my car I have a cartech fmu, 42lb ford greentop injectors stock fuel pump. For a while I was running extremely rich out of boost so I bought an accel afpr slapped it on, turned it down so my idle pressure was lower and not so rich. Your stock fpr is set at stock fuel pressure and cannot be changed, with bigger injectors it dumps to much fuel. So then I adjusted the accel down and used my cartech to control the rising pressure for boost. So in my opinion you need a set of bigger injectors, and afpr and a cartech I found worked best for me.

i think he was asking which ratio should he use for boost, not which ratio the fmu has in it.

I have a cartech 2025 FMU and ford brown tops sitting around here that I would be willing to sell, both in "like new condition". FMU maybe has 50 miles on it. PM with an offer.

HPT should take care of most of your fuel needs from what I understand.
