m45 guys... post up your dyno & track times

To all m45 charged 2.4er's...

Looking to see what kind of power you are putting down, as well as any track times, although i'm sure they will vary from car to car. I'm really disappointed with what i have so far, so also post up your mods list as perhaps i'm missing something... the fact that i'm not over 200 wheel breaks my fuggin heart with the amount of money I have spent this year so far on just this boost project

98 grand am

m45 w/ pulley boys 2.6" pulley
cooling mist stage 2 sprayin 100% meth
370cc injectors
header 2.5" down and out (hi flo cat, no res, dual borla turbo mufflers)
HPT tuned

183.3whp
15.4@90 w/ a 2.27 60'

Now i'm running 19" wheels w/ dunlop tires so i'm sure that has some effect on my time, but do you think that also is affecting my dyno? I'm also having clutch slippage (in the tranny section I have a post) so i'm sure that's got something to do with it as well. I think I am also going to be playing with my meth spray as it's possible that i'm spraying too much, or not enough. I don't have my innovative wide band hooked up yet, but I plan on doing that this weekend

Search. There have been a billion posts just like this one that have plenty of information in them....

As far as your disappointment goes, your car is really heavy and you're having transmission issues. The numbers you're pulling are justified.

Buy a j-body and you'll have faster/better numbers.

I have a 2002 z24 with this supercharger. My only other mods were cold air intake, 56 mm tb, and hp tuners. No alky stock size 2.8 pulley and a otherwise completly stock engine, even the stock exhaust and stock muffler.

My best 1/4 was a 14.5 This was done with the 17 inch tires I drive on every dayat 35 psi, No weight reduction at all. Stock I ran a 15.6 1/4

I put down 214whp on a dyno jet style dyno. Different dynos will read different. Mustang dyno read lower. Also the bigger your rims the heavier. This will be noticable in your 1/4 mile time and on the dyno as well.

I have heard that grand ams are heavier but I do not know how much so I do not want to speculate on that. As for your clutch slipping if it slipped on the dyno or the track that would explain things. Also for example a mustang dyno puts more load on your car than you experience on the track. The dynojet style seem about even or just slightly less. I have know way of knowing if your car slipped on either the track or the dyno.

It sounds like you are on the right track though. The other thing I would really look into is your setting you are using with hp tuners. The more info you can give us the better we can help you. Good Luck

Yeah i've done a bunch of searching, and it's just getting me madder... lol 56mm tb's, stock exhaust and they are puttin down more power. I didn't mention that i have the 62mm TB from RSM

My plan is to change the clutch, get the fly wheel resurfaced and head back to the dyno to see what's up from there. The number's i'm looking for i'd prefer to be based on my 19's since that is what I drive around on, but i'm thinking i'm really gonna have to go back to at least the stock 16's and put some rubber on there... or get a couple of rotas and do it up that way and that'll be for when I go to the track

I don't know what the different types of dynos are

The one that I ran on was where where I drive up on these ramps to this flat part, then it raises up to where the rollers are, then the car moves forward and onto the rollers

Oh ya, my dyno was after a semi-tune with HPT, but my ET was done before HPT.

Need a new(er) clutch and a s/c rebuild (still looking for info on this, HELP ME PEOPLE!) before I do any more 1/4 runs.

theres a company called stiegmeyer that can rebuild it for you as well as port and polish it, the website is eluding me as of now.

Keep in mind my location, and the fact the car is daily driven. And it's not worth spending upwards of $600 on.

I know of them, and I won't use them, not worth it.

Dosnt JBP port and polish the M45'S? I wouldnt trust them, since their definetely nothing like steigmeier, but its worth a try.

S/C on a motor that needed more than the M45 could supply, I put down 226HP and 190TQ at the wheels and ran a best of 14.267 at 99.7 MPH at a very crappy track.

dude, get your problems straightened out first. I never understand how people say things like "my clutch is slipping, why isn't my car as fast as everyone else's?". FIX THE DAMN CLUTCH!! That is the FIRST place where power transfers from the motor to your driveline. 19" rims aren't helping either. Secondly, you have to understand that the M45 is not exactly a powerhouse, its a solid mod to make a decent improvement over stock but its not gonna get you 300 hp. The grand am is also heavy, something on the order of 2-300 lbs heavier than a j-body. Don't go messing with anything else until your clutch situation is taken care of, before messing with your meth injection.

My "off the factory line" GT registered 135.8 WHP N/A. Then with just the charger alone it later registered 178.6 WHP. I have now other bolt ons and i'm sure it only gets better from there.

I'm just guesstimating the clutch is the issue, but i'm not 100% proof positive... thats why I was looking to see what others are running... similar setups should net similar results... and I am aware of the weight differences, however at this point the only thing in the car are 2 seats... nothing else in the interior (minus dash)

i'm also lookin into some serious tread for the stock 16" wheels that came on the car, and i think i'll be running those at the track. I'm pretty bent on getting a stage 2 clutch from spec, but my new concern is flywheel... I understand that its lighter so it's gonna make my revs quicker, but will I see any differences in hp / tq #'s? If not, I don't see the point in getting a lighter flywheel, so could someone explain how that whole thing works?

Don't race or dyno on 19's... all that extra weight is basically kidnapping the power that your car is making. Who tuned it with HPT yourself? Did you go on a dyno to tune it with a wideband? If there was no wideband hooked up to the car while you were tuning, you have much to gain from a good tune. If your clutch is slipping, go buy yourself a nice new shiny SPEC stage 2 or stage 3, the flywheel is optional, but you'll notice the motor feels a lil more revable.

Yep the grand am is a heavy boat. I'm not suffering too badly it seems.

Gus what boost numbers are you seeing? I am only seeing 6 PSI with the 2.6 inch pulley, lol.

Good luck, change out that clutch. Did you actually get to the track at all, what are your 60'?

Spy-

Tuned with HPT on a dyno by a guy here in rochester who specializes in GM's & HPT (he does all the big boys maros, vettes, birts, gto's, stangs, etc). He used the wideband that hooks up in the rear or whatever. I have a innovative wide band that I plan on putting in the car this week. Once I get the new clutch i'll have it re dyno'd & tuned (still gotta work on the smaller wheels / tires thing)

Chris-

I'm seeing 8 once i'm under full boost, and at the top of 3rd it'll go to 9.5 during the day. The other night I got it to hit 10 right before I shifted

60' are 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3. 2.2xx came on my 15.4 run which was the best I could do with my car as is. Give me a call... I've been tryin to call you for about a week or so, but everytime it'll ring and then tell me the caller i'm calling is not taking calls right now (aka no voicemail)... figured you'd wanna see it and i'd also like to talk to you about a few things PM me if you don't have my number and i'll get back to ya with it

Man I wish I saw 8-10 PSI, lol. I have only seen 6, I am going to have my blower rebuilt or something.

If you need smaller rims I can get you some, just cheapy steelies.
I will give you a call.

Well I just got the car dynoed/tuned for a little bit...its still working way worse than last summer...still not quite sure whats wrong with it but hopefully figure it out soon...after 2 hours of tuning on the dyno my best pull was 163.75whp and 164.39ft/lbs and I ran a 15.0 last year with a 2.45 60'.
