I'm in the process of doing a 2.3HO intake manifold swap preparing for the turbo install. I've heard too many horror stories of bad turbo return lines blowing seals. With the crankcase under vacuum, it will help prevent the turbo oil return line from getting clogged, so I want the PCV system to remain fully functional. Every little bit helps, and I want to do this right.
I'm baffled as to what exactly the PCV hole in the cylinder head in the 2.4 is for.
Can I just plumb the hose that used to go to that expansion box to the intake side of the turbo (before the turbo) so it's always under vaccuum? Do I drill out a hole in the 2.3 manifold and hook it up through the PCV hole in the head? Do I block off that hole?

The adapter will block off that hole. Which is fine.

Well first of all, the pcv hole in the head isn't even exposed. I believe you are talking about the black pcv box that connects to your block. You might get away with plumbing it pre-turbo, but when that turbo starts to spool, that is going to be a LOT of vacuum. You might not have any engine oil left after 500 miles.

on the stock intake it is... theres little channels that connect that hole in the head to each intake port in the manifold. my venom intake manifold also had them...

Are you sure you are talking about the pcv and not the EGR? The pcv is what that black hose coming from your timing chain housing is connected to. I know for a fact that on the 99-02 heads, there is no pcv hole (except on the bottom side of the head inside the motor). I would suspect the same for every 2.4L head since the blocks are the same.

there is a tiny hole right in the middle of the head that the intake manifold covers up, this is the one im referring to. now, i never did find out what exactly it was for, or what it does... i just know venom went to a lot of trouble to get that whole "channeling" system into there flange.. cuz it DOES NOT look like something that would be easy to just fab up.
the stock gasket has a little hole through it right where it is as well.
Ahhh, yes there is a tiny hole in the middle of the two intake ports on the head.. Its the pcv hole.. And it will be fine when covered up by the 2.3 adapter.. Don't even worry about it, to the original poster.. This was a good top about a year ago when I was putting my motor together..

The hole is there for possitive crankcase ventilation while the throttle is closed.
Here is a pic of the hole, between the middle two intake ports where the low dip in the flange is.
On my motor i am using a 2.3 HO intake manifold that i modded to still function with the PCV hole in the 2.4 head. The PCV hole on the 2.4 head flange will be blocked by the 2.3 intake manifold flange, so the 2.3 intake manifold flange needs to be modded to use it. On my intake manifold i drilled and tapped a hole on the flange and then threaded a barb fitting into it, from that barb fitting i connect a 2" (or shorter) section of vacuum hose to a small clear fuel filter from a lawn mower. The reason for the fuel filter is to collect any oil vapor being sucked from the crank case before they go to the intake manifold, using a clear filter will allow you to see when it gets full of oil and needs to be replaced. Then from the filter run another small section of vacuum hose to a check valve, the check valve will allow the PCV system suck out pressure when the intake manifold is under vacuum but block boost pressure from going in while the intake manifold is under boost pressure. Then from the check valve i run another section of vacuum hose to any port on the intake manifold plenum. I hope this helps.

Maybe it has just been too long since I have seen my 2.4L head, but I don't remember EVER seeing that hole. It certainly doesn't exist on the 086.

with the adaptor flange blocking that port off, will there be any negatives to that?
I'm seeing a huge inability to read here.
As Jeremy said, drill hole in manifold, tap, put barb fitting in, then run hose, inlne filter, hose, check valve, hose to vaccum source. I have that hole tapped and drilled with a barb fitting but I've never run the hose yet, and I should. This will help draw crank case gasses out.
Negative effects will be you won't have that ventilation.

I did both, drilling the whole, filter, check valve to vacuum source, then i ran my tube from the black box under the manifold, to the intake side of the turbo...have a filter on before the intake of the turbo..and i repeat..iv gotten 0 oil coming threw there so far, so for saying that it will suck all your oil out...it doesnt...cause its the air/oil seperator...... my crankcase practically needs vacuum to get oil down it properly, my return line is almost Flat accross cause of the auto tranny...so..
