Several others with the charger have had this happen...me included.

I've not ever figured it out myself? Not sure what or why as I've went back through my car several times on the entire install and nothing is there, nothing I can find that makes it do this?

Do you have a wideband on the car? A couple of us have been emailing each other and we are running rich at idle or when deaccellerating (sp?) and think it's the fuel puddling and it chokes or bogs to burn the excess fuel before it's got the right air/fuel mixture?

Just a thought or at least all we can come up with! A fix? Don't know?

If you ever figure it out...be sure to drop me a line!!! Did you do the install or a dealership?

Eh...old man with a Corvette now...it was bound to happen sooner rather than later right?

There's nowhere for the fuel to puddle, it's fuel injected, not carbureted.

I understand that...bad choice of words I guess...I'm a bit older than your average J owner (40)!

The injectors are allowing too much fuel at idle and again when you let off the gas to slow down. At least that is what my wideband is telling me as I'm running close or right at 10.0 A/F ratios then.

Under WOT I'm at 12.5 - 13.0 or so depending on how hard I'm hitting it.

I get a CEL every 5 cycles or so for a random misfire as well. I've checked the plugs and the gap and everything is correct. I've rerun the wiring and all the connections too. The plugs are very black!! It's rich, pig rich and it's all at idle or when off the gas (again, based on my WB).

I'll take suggestions from anyone if you know what to do?

The AFPR would only adjust the fuel pressure at idle and then under WOT it would be lean. At least that is how it was explained ot me....if that's incorrect, let me know and I'll try that route but a good source here on JBO told me that.

Thanks...

Mine was installed at the dealership, and I too have the same problem. The only other performance mod to my car is a 2.5" cat-back exhaust, and K&N filter (K&N not so much performance but just wanted to be accurate).

Could it be the Cat., I get a very slight rotten-egg smell(but I also get a slight hair burning smell sometimes, I think it is just the S/C breaking in?), and my son said there is a small black puff at the exhaust when I try to give it gas at the same time I am having the problem(extra fuel?), but I haven't thrown any codes. WHAT DO YOU THINK?

The car is an '05 (bought in Oct. '04) and only has 22,000 miles. I rarely even get on it but when I do, I want it to respond, not fall on its face.

I too am an old schooler (35) and am much more at home with an old V8, but this was a cool project to get my 14 year old son involved in, and now it is starting to look like a large waste of money. Don't get me wrong it is a pretty bad-a$$ little ride, but a mild shot of NOS and I would have had a bit more money left to put into something else on the car.

Please add me to the list of people to contact when a solution is found. And I know jbo will find the solution.

Thanks all,
cya

StrongEco...guess that takes care of my theory of me installing something wrong! If the dealer installed yours and it's still doing it then it has to be something else!

It's a fuel issue I know! I just don't know enough about FI and being in Germany doesn't help either!

We'll figure it out...I have a couple emails in to GM racing (I know a couple guys there) and also the GM HQs for performance parts. Sat last night and did a lot of searching on the web and stuff so we'll see what I get back from them.

I also had the German dealer open a GM ticket for my car. So I have about 4 or 5 things working to figure this out!

Mine also did the same thing once in awhile, but now that I have around 15,000 miles on the blower now it doesn't do it anymore, don't know what it was, but its not doing it anymore for me.

Yup, I have this problem. Its definetely a fuel issue. Blue Deuce, get your idle at 14.7 and see if it still happens from there.

Maybe a problem with the ECU re-programming the dealer has to do?

Re: ECOTEC GM S/C PROBLEM

I recevied and email on Friday from Mr. Russ O'Blenes at GM Racing and he is looking into this for me...for us.

I hope to see something next week from someone who can at least address the issue within GM Performance Parts but right now I don't know.

At least I've received an email saying they are going to see about it. Stay tuned...nothing promised at all just wanted those with the problem to know I've at least made inital contact within GM Racing to get something rolling (I hope!).

On a side note...if you correct the A/Fs at idle to 14.7, you'll be lean at WOT! So that may be a fix for idle but then you'll have issues at WOT. I'm holding out here to see if I can get more information or in contact with someone who can work this from the GM side of things.

mine only bogs down like that if i don't let the car warm up before i drive it. i definitely agree with you guys on the fact that its a fuel issue. in my opinion, i think it just gets too rich too fast. once my car is warm, my idle afr is right around 14.7 and i see 10.4 at wot. if i were to try and drive the car without warming it up, i'd step on the gas slightly and see low 11s on my wideband, it would bog down, and then the afr would slowly return for high 13s mid 14s and then the car would go. i've learned to live with that aspect of it, i just let my car warm up before i drive it anywhere and then i don't have any problems

If you have a way of watching your timing I strongly recommend doing that. I have a 2.4L with the S/C reflash and found out why it would occasionaly fall on its face. The Eco may have the same problem. Due to an error in the program, under certian conditions the PCM will command -10.5 degrees of timing. Why GM would have it fire the plug after TDC I do not know or understand. You guys with the Eco reflash may be having the same problem. Just a thought.

my car has this problem, but its only if i stab it real quick (like gear matching for deceleration). it does seem to go way rich or pull timing; gotta have somethin to do with the damn GM reflash.

BlueDeuce,
Good job on looking out!! Keep us informed!

alias1429,
My car usually acts up long after it has warmed up (25-30min), although I know better than to beat a cold engine, I don't think that is the main problem.

Basically just wanted to bump the thread

P.S.

It has seemed to happen less over time (fingers crossed), but as previously stated, I really don't get on it that much, and even when I do, it is usually only pulls through the gears to about 4500-5000rpm, nowhere near redline!
