lemme break it down for you.

All three of those turbos are manufactured in either Taiwan or China. The quality of the rotating parts tend to not be built to take the abuse of the high temperatures that turbos generate, and over time tend to wear out much quicker.

Let me give you the quick jist of it.

why don't you stop looking for knock off brand turbos and start looking at real garrett, mitsubishi, IHI, Turbonetics turbos?

If you're only looking to put $200-$300 into a turbocharger, you should not even be thinking about turbocharging a car.

Go ahead and buy any of the turbochargers you have already listed. It will be dead within months.

a decent turbo setup, going the cheap route....with getting everything you absolutly need to make it work... you're looking at AT LEAST....800, to get knockoff brand everything, or if you know the right people...

You can't just slap a turbo on and be done with it..... if you want to go super cheap route... look up turbo kits.... and even with that I wouldn't trust it...

here's a better idea, if you're an ebayatic (like me)... search Garrett or Turbonetics t3 or t4 or t3/t4 .... you might lucky and get a used one off of someone... or maybe even a rebuilt one...

You need:

IC piping
an intercooler
oil feed and return, flanges, gaskets and lines
if it's not internally wastegated you'll need a wastegate and blow off valve
if it IS internally wastegated then you'll still need a blow off valve
downpipe adaptor maybe
a new exhaust setup
a new manifold
most likely bigger injectors if you want to get anything out of it
then you will either have to get it professionally tuned at a dyno or buy hptuners....

look up the prices for all that and decide if you still want to turbo your car.... not to diminish your hopes and dreams, but you probably don't have enough money to do all that... especially if you won't spend more than 200 on a turbo....double it and buy a refurb'd garret or turbonetics
Re: ebay turbos...
Saturday, March 31, 2007 8:04 PM
Well... i might have found a good almost new turbo for maybe like $20 shipped.. then intercooler will be about $120... charger pipes.. maybe $60-$80ish.. HKS SSQV blow-off valve for maybe $60.. then turbo im getting is an adjustable internally wastegated one so i dont have to worry about an external wastegate.. the turbo manifold i can get for $100, T25 to T3 adaptor for maybe $50, then im converting to MPFI and using the 3 bar map sensor to run up to 30PSI of boost, and i dont think anywhere makes high flow injectors for sunbirds (2.0L MPFI turbo.. anyone know where to get some of theyre made?) and.. i think that about covers it.. lol

i love how people assume all turbos made in Asian countries are @!#$. Where do you think they get their turbos from, and why they are on tons of really nice cars, like s15s for example.

im not sure on those turbos, but if you want a cheap turbo, XS Power makes some and they arent as @!#$ty as everyone thinks. want proof go to http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2889847 I got one, ive inspected it. not made of glue, bolts are nice and tight.

performance parts from taiwan and china tend to not be made to the highest of standards, honestly. you can argue all you want, they just dont' compare to the real deal. That's why the best stay the best

XS Power has crapped out on already a few cars here from kids that bought an XS Power turbo kit and had my friend's shop install it. The running theme, start running more than 12 lbs and things go stupid.

Another note on the knock off wastegates and blow off valves, the diaphrams and rubber/silicone whatever internal parts tend to be made of inferior quality materials, so what I am saying is, these parts in automotive use tend to break down in a shorter amount of time than the real deal versions.

However, if you cheap asses really want a cheap solution, here's a few.

If anybody buys a knock off TiAL blow off valve, you find the cheapest one possible then call up TiAL and ask for a rebuild kit for it. Swap in the good internals and you have saved some money.

Same w/ the TiAL wastegates.

Dude, I looked into the cheap route.

Seriously, just don't bother unless you don't mind countless hours scavenging for a good deal. A good quality, basic internally wastgated setup runs at least $1400.

well imo, bassed on ur questions that have been answered more then once..... i really dont think u should turbo your car as u have no clue what is really involved. and u keep posting "what about this 150$ turbo"
everyone says stay away from the cheap ebay turbos.... u keep posting more links.... do u really think your gonna get a different response on a CHEAPER turbo.

ur obviously not gonna listen to what anyone says.... so why not just buy it and quit asking the same question... the answers were giving obviously arent what your wanting to hear... ill say it 1 last time... expect to pay at least 600 for a good turbo that will last.. you have 5 people telling you to stay away from them, all of us with built motors......

no do u honestly think that cheap ass turbo will even handle 30psi?? or that 120 cooler will support it? lol a 60 hks bov?? injectors will fit almost any car kiddo....

your right.. u can do all that for like 600 bucks and run 30psi all day... all of us who have spent around 10k to do everythign right have absolutely no clue what were doin.

so here.

yes buy that 150$ turbo.. it will work perfect.... you will make 500hp on it and run 4s in the 1/4. u obviously have more knowledge on turbos then anyone on this site..
