So anyone using a holset turbo???
Tuesday, March 27, 2007 8:04 PM
I am in the process of selling my Xr4ti and I'm getting back into the cavy scene and was wondering if anyone has messed with a holset? The Ford 2.3 guys love it and swear by it as it is a much better upgrade than the typical t3/t4xxx upgrade and much cheaper. The size of the thing would be the only issue I could think of (as in physically fitting it in the engine bay).

I had one I was going to put on my car but just sold it instead. I know on a poor flowing 2.3 head a lot of guys were getting full boost at around 3800 rpms.

Anyone out there that's tried it?

They make pretty decent quality turbo's. Which one are you looking at?

I had the same question, a buddy of mine has an XR and swears by the HX35.

The hy35 is the one I had. It was the front discharge model that you find on the 03-07 Ram diesels. The Hx35 is a split scroll housing so if you could custom make a header for it, you'd get better low end response.

I have the compressor map for the hx35

And the great thing about these is they can easily handle 30 psi and still be in the efficiency range for those looking to make serious horsepower.

My boss uses a Holset H1C on his SR20 Pignose 240 .... that thing spools like a bastard.

you'd better be boosting more than 15lbs to get in the sweetspot of that baby.

-Trailblazer SS - not so custom 6.0L - custom intake - custom tune
- (1) 2.4L on an engine stand (1) blown trans (2) good quad trans (1) eco trans = party

yea, this turbo would be for those doing a serious build, 20+ psi.

My new (Ecotec) build features a hy35 mounted on equal length top mount header. Fitment is interesting. I was able to get the header and the monster turbo back there with no problems, but an air filter is out of the questions an DP routing is going to be interesting.

Oh and the holsets own. They are more effiecient then the garret equivalients and apparently they produce a cooler intake charge. Just make sure to remove your silencer ring to get the most out of it ... and sound like a truck.
