Finally Turboing the cavi!! 2200
Wednesday, March 21, 2007 6:48 PM
Well finally got all the parts i ordered and pieced together all of the flanges and hose and pipes i need and im part ways into it i am making a custom manifold that i fabricated myself and i finally have everything welded on but the wastegate, i have it mounted and i have to say it looks pretty sweet!!But also i got the oil inlet ran and hooked up and i changed the injectors to my ford brown tops, and tomorrow i am gonna finish the manifold completely and run the return into the dipstick. Then i am gonna mount the turbo and bolt manifold fast and then i am gonna make the downpipe and connect it to my full 2.5" mandrel bent pipe. After that i am going to mount my fmu and run the hoses to my afpr then finish installing the new wire clips and injectors and put that all back together and then just finish everything else up.... So tell me what you think about this so far!!

Good luck.

Wow... I am turboing my 2200 too.. this week. It should be done by next Friday... I'm waiting on my intercooler. I also upgraded to Ford Brown tops, clipped right in!!! You don't need new clips. We ordered HP Tuners, and I'm going with 2.5" downpipe too. Are you running a cat or straight pipe? Did you have to move your dipstick?

Yup...that's how you assemble a turbo setup! What exactly are we supposed to comment on?

I don't recommend using an FMU. I'm sorry but I've never liked working with them. Provided your car is 97 or newer, just go HP Tuners. If not, there's always Megasquirt. And MS Tune is not difficult to work with at all. I tuned my own car on it using a local dyno and it worked smoothly. Plus you can buy an already assmbled MS2 box from DIYAutoTune.com for a little over $400.

Yeah i had to bend the dipstick up closer to the manifold right in between the exhaust inlet flange and the compressor housing and i have been taking pics of the whole install so if someone could show me how to post pics on here that would be a big help, And i should be getting the car started tomorrow i dont have to much more to do and i have to rig up the oil inlet since the aluminum flange broke while i was F***ing around with everything and i almost have my custom down pipe all tacked up and then im going to finish it tomorrow and run it into my 2.5 inch exhaust with magnaflow high flow cat and ractive sport muffler.but really the most complicated thing to do now is run the intercooler piping. so let me know wut u think thanks for the comments i hope it goes smooth....

Open downpipe is the only way to go.

Well i Need help getting pics on to the site here i am not totally sure at all how to do that but im doing great on the car. I Didnt get her totally finished today but i got most of my downpipe fabbed up and i must sya it is looking pretty sweet, and Guess wut!!! I got to start the car finally!!!!! The only gay thing is i didnt have the intercooler or the piping hooked up but it ran and it has a turbo. So im headed in the right direction i think. The only big issue i have had which wasnt all that big was that my ford brown tops acted pretty weird, i mean i went to start my car and it wouldnt fire so i pulled the injectors out to see if they were spraying and only the farthest passenger side one sprayed so i took the rail off f***ed with the wires and tried it again and let me say i didnt mess with the one that was originally spraying but it ended up that the one all the way on the drivers side only sprayed that time.So i dont know wuts up but i took those out and put the z24 injectors i was already using back in,and it fired right up other than the fact that i had the fuel pressure to low for the big injectors i was planning on having to make idle and the other fact that the left cylinder was flooded. But i got it and damn she sounds good but i cant wait to finish it into the exhaust i wanna hear it and not have that annoying open pipe sound. But anyways i need some help on routing my 2" charge pipes,I can tell its gonna be a bitch!! I have some ideas but im looking for more pics plz i tried the search and i cant find to many useful things. I have taken a decent amount of pics and i took three ids tonight so i am going to put them on my myspace tomorrow and if u guys wanna check em out let me know and ill give u my url for it. Oh yeah just remembered that i have a slight oil return leak because i originally ended up with a t25 oil flange and i have a To4e and well obviously it was to small so i cut off the sides and "rigged" it up and its really only a very tiny leak but i ordered the right flange a lil bit earlier. So please will someone show me how to put pics on here and how to run my intercooler piping??? Thanks a lot!!
Jerry

piping is the hardest part... my intercooler and piping get here today, and I'm sure it will take me all of next week to figure out how I'm going to run it...

how did you run your oil lines? I can't seem to get my oil pressure sensor off, could they put it in a harder to get to place!!!!
Re: Finally Turboing the cavi!! 2200

I used a 1 1/16" socket and took out the oil pressure sensor out and then put in a brass 1/4 inch nipple about 3 inches long but you should go a little longer because of the knock sensor or wutever beside it will be really close as it was on mine. Then i put in a brass 1/4" tee and hooked everything up. hope this helps ya and also i put the drain in the dipstick and its working great.

Re: Finally Turboing the cavi!! 2200

I wish I would have seen this before I went back out to try to fix it. yup that's the size I used 1 1/16th, hard as hell to get it down there and off wasn't it? yup Tee'd off that for the oil pressure sender (oil pressure gauge) and then the oil feed... I'm rewelding the dipstick tomorrow, so that the drain will be in there better (and won't leak!!!) then all I have to do is actually mount the turbo... did you have to trim part of your radiator fan housing? or move your coolant line down a bit?... I had to do both to get mine to fit... I have a t3/t4 hybrid, and bought an ebay manifold....
Re: Finally Turboing the cavi!! 2200

The first thing i did was mount the turbo since i made my own manifold and i only had to notch out the front suppurt a little for the compressor housing but where i put my turbo i didnt have to screw with the coolant line and the fan so im glad about that. And for the oil line it was not to hard to get to underneath with it up on ramps. By the way wut size turbo did u get exactly??

Well i got it running and the only thing is i didnt hook up my intercooler yet because im waiting to do it when i have this all back out cuz i have a manifold leak where it drew up from me welding it so im gonna have it decked so its all level. The only thing im wondering about is that it has a hesitation if u get on it in real low rpmsin like 4th or third or if u feather the throttle. So im thinking its detonation since i just ran the little bit of regular gas out since it was in there to put in premium tomorrow.

And also im pretty sure that my bov isnt getting enough vaccum to open because the line on the afpr is pretty small so im gonna tee off of a bigger one tomorrow also. so some one please reply and let me know some signs of detonation like spark plug color or wutever?? please and thanks in advance!!

Here's a good write up on spark plugs for you: http://maxracesoftware.com/spark_plugs.htm

Don't boost without an intercooler, ever.

I plan on putting my intercooler in this week sometime and then ill get my manifold fixed then also. But im pretty sure i figured out wut my hesitation was i had in ngk tr6 plugs gapped at about 30-35 and i changed back to my stock ones and it took all the hesitation away but the thing now is i got my brown tops to work and i have a vortech 12:1 fmu and it is making it so rich when i hit boost that it sputters like crazy so tomorrow im going to just hook up the line from the afpr straight to the return cuz i did that first and it ran good except when i was at 3 psi for a while it just didnt feel right so im pretty sure it was getting leaned out then. So if anyone has a cartech adjustable for sale id really appreciate u letting me know thanks again for those who replied.
