So the idea has popped into my head to go with a turbocharger instead of the supercharger, but my question is will my car be safe to run on say 6-8 psi from a t3/t4 50 trim turbo with the 2 bar map sensor and the gm supercharger reflash. I want to get the car to run ok for now and over the summer i will have it dyno tuned being that money is a lil tight right now and the guy who has hp tuners around here with a dyno is tied up for 3 months.....

honestly, i have been weighing my desisions, and reading many threads researching for my build/turbo project, and these posts come up repeatedly. if you dont have the time/funds to do it right, then just wait. now i am sure somone will come in here and correct me, but i am pretty sure the boost range you are wanting to run you need to upgrade the fuel. but its your car in the end, do what you want, the question is, do you want to be one of the people that blow the motor up from not tuning it correctly, or would you rather wait and turn it and have her run right.
im trying to find out exactly how much tuning is needed after the supercharger reflash. Is it ok to drive if i stay outta boost as much as possible with just the reflash or is it MANADATORY that i have it tuned?? Its going to get tuned either way, i just wanna be able to drive the car for a while until this guy gets caught up on his work......

I just replaced my S/C with a T3/T4 and am still running the reflash. I temperarily upped the fuel pressure to a lot more than stock as I have not yet had a chance to install the bigger injectors. I am currently using the MAP, injectors, and plugs from the S/C kit. I have a set of 36 LB injectors from a 3800 series 3 S/C that will be going in soon. My A/F are well within what I concider acceptable limits but i do occasionaly see some knock. I belive this is false knock as everything seems to run right and no abnormal noises, but I will look into it further.
thank you mitdr774. Thats more like an answer that i was looking for. How much boost are you running from that turbo and whats the trim specs on it? Can u give me some info on ur setup?

Im at 7.35 PSI right now and when I figure out whats causing the knock retard (happens very sporatic and wont duplicate the same twice in a row) I will start adding more in small increments. I plan on eventualy getting it up to 12 PSI. The way I see it the motor will either hold or let loose, and then I find out what failed and rebuild better.
u think a stock 2.4 will hold up to 7-8 psi?

Sure, run the GM S/C reflash. You'll be just fine. However, I think you're honestly looking at the wrong turbo. Save yourself some money and get a more efficient turbo for that setup. I would honestly go with the T3 Super 60. It won't flow as much CFM at 7 psi as the that T3/T04 however it'll be safer and its internally gated so you won't have to chop up a manifold to add on an external wastegate flange.

everyone on here seems to like the t3 super 60. Question is, who makes it? Is it the garrett turbo or is it the airesearch? I dont mind adding an external wastegate though, if thats what i have to do then so be it. Im just looking to get a little more power outta my daily driver. I am going to try the s/c reflash method. Question is, should i go with the s/c injectors or something bigger. And will the injectors that come on a cobalt ss s/c work on my car? i have the ld9

I wanna list the parts that im going to use on my turbo kit and i want you guys to tell me if u see anything wrong with my list.
Custom manifold
T3 super 60 turbo
AFPR
2 bar map
32# injectors
The obvious: Charge pipes, intercooler, BOV, vac lines, oil lines, 1 step colder plugs.
If theres anything that im missing please inform me, either i forgot about it or just didnt list it. Im pretty confident in doing this project but i just wanna be sure on what im using.

Air Research is Garrett. But long story short, yes its a Garrett turbocharger. You can purchase the T3 Super 60 brand new here. As for injectors, it depends on how much horsepower you want to make. Honestly, given the necessary duty cycles for a good tune under boost, I wouldn't use 310cc injectors, which are the injectors that come in the S/C kit. I'd do some RC 440's.
