i have an electronic boost controller and im looking at which waste gate to buy. i was originally going to go with tial but i was told that because of the electronic boost controller, a 'knock-off' would work fine. anyone have any input on this?
Knock-offs are never fine. Go beat whoever told you that until they can't give any more bad advice.
I used to race cars, now I race myself.

The knock-offs have a tendancy to leak boost past the diaphragm. I have never used one myself but I installed a knock-off kit on this dude's civic and it leaked. I took it apart and aplied GM sealant around the diaphragm where it contacts the housing and where it bolts to the valve. I also put high temperature grease on the guide.
It didn't leak anymore after that for the week I was driving the car to tune it.
Personally the only thing I trust from them is their intercoolers because there are no moving parts and if it leaks, I can weld it.

i just bought a tial 38mm. i figured if i could save money, i would try, but that would have been the weakest link in the whole kit if i didn't buy the tial, just was curious what other people did with also using an electronic boost controller.
