Do you guys ever hear your bypass valves?
Sunday, October 29, 2006 1:40 PM
When I drive just barely in vacuum, I can hear a hissing sound. I assume it's my bypass valve. Anybody else have this? I like it.

My greddy RS sounds like a whistle in high gear at low RPMs, no matter how many times i adjust it , its still there. It does the exact same thing on my friend SVT focus ...

Its kinda funny ... but i like it.

Yeah, I love that sound...I hear it when I slightly push on the gas a bit going from vacuum to boost... it's extremely satisfying

I think what you are hearing is the boost getting pushed back past the valve as you are right on the cusp of it being fully closed.

and it is a good noise, it is just then that people realized they will soon be owned by a sleeper cavalier.

we aren't talking about a turbo bov sound, that's the sound of a supercharger's bypass valve...

its not the bypass valve making the noise

its the s/c making the noise , its the air pressure from the s/c getting pushed past the blade that the boost bypass is hooked up to

mine usually whistles from 5" to just before 0" of vacuum , then the tone changes once its in boost, under 3psi , then once wide open it screams like a banshee

I tried getting some video of the bypass valve whistling, but it wouldn't work tonight. Dunno why, it was cold, maybe that had something to do with it.

Have somebody you know walk down a hallway and softly whistle, that's what it sounds like.

Good discription Eric. At first I thought it was my intake whistling. It is good to know that its the blower. It makes sense now that i think about it. good sounds indeed. Whistle, little bit louder of a whistle, then the full scream. I love it.

BTW i know this post is old. I'm trolling tonight. lol

It's great. The only "issue" is that my idle is at 1000-1100 instead of 900rpms. Other than that there are no driveablity issues. We did reprogram the computer because i also installed a 2.9" pulley and 63# injectors.
