Bad ECU??
Sunday, September 24, 2006 4:24 PM
Well, I have been having a problem with my CEL coming on. Turned out it was a multiple misfire. I won't elaborate on it much, because I had another post about that issue: Clicky Just today, I was driving around and I went to slow down and put it in second gear. I noticed my car was lurching really bad and misfiring like crazy. However there was noO CEL on. I turned the car off and on a few times and is does the same thing. My wideband is showing 10.0 A/F. I'm guessing its lower than that because it is puffing black smoke like crazy. It sounds like it has wild cams in it. I revved it up a few times, and then all of the sudden the A/F went to 14.7-15.5 and it ran fine. Turned it off and back on, and then the same thing. 10.0 A/F and running like crap. I checked my fuel pressure, and its at 50 psi, just like it always has been. I can't seem to come up with anything. Could a bad ECU do this??

Hey Shifted, no I didn't get your e-mail. I haven't had a chance to check it. I will check it tonight if I get back to my apartment. I gotta get my car running tonight so I can make it back to my apartment for school tomorrow.

Bobby, yes I got it on! I wouldn't have been able to do it without the puller. Damn, that thing was on there tight! I gotta IM you to get your address. The UPS slip covered up your adddress on the package.

I just pulled the plugs out, and they are all BLACK. I mean the blackest plugs I have ever seen. I can't figure it out. I thought maybe the FPR went bad and was sending fuel through the vac line into the s/c, which happened before and caused the same problem, but no such luck. Seems like if I drive it for a while, then it runs normal. As soon as I do a restart, the problem is back.

Does that sound like an ECU problem?!

Gotta run and try to make it back to my apartment yet tonight. (I'm at my parent's house right now) I will check back here in a few hours hopefully.

Well, I made it back. It runs normally after it has been started for about 2 to 3 minutes. But EVERY time I start it up, the first 2 or 3 mins it is at 10.0 or lower A/F and idles at like 3K RPM. If I just leave it alone, after 2 or 3 mins, the A/F goes up to 15 or so and then the idle smooths out like normal and drives just fine.

What would cause this??

Well, I may have come up with a solution. Could a disconnected vacuum line do such a thing? I was driving to school this morning and tried switching the heat from the vents to the floor and nothing happened. It won't switch any of the vents no matter what selection I set it to. Does anyone know where the vacuum line for that originates from??

Also, after looking through the engine bay, I found that the vacuum line connected the the tranny is not connected to anything. It goes to a hard plastic tube that has an S at the end and then stops. Does anyone know if it is supposed to be connected to something??

It's just a vent tube. Doesn't hook to anything.

It sounds like you have a o2 sensor going bad , bad connection somewhere.

That could be. The O2 sensor has about 112K on it. Maybe I will try a new one of those.

Also, I still have to fix my vent problem. Anyone know where the vacuum line for that originates from??

I emailed you a copy of the gm supercharger manual. It is on page 14 I think.

look for a gray tube around the brake booster......... it should mate with a black tube, and run to your T/B...... its run inside the wire loom.

Jake should be able to find it for you, if you need help finding it.......

IDK if the NVG uses the trans vent.......
