I had a dual ball bearing from a nissan skyline.. made by garrett I really liked it, and I removed it to go larger, but the point.... When you run a ball bearing over a bushing type turbocharger a couple of things change... turbo SIZING is much more important, because over spinning a BB turbo is not a pretty site, BB turbos (from charts I have seen) spool up on average 18% quicker throughout the RPM range all other factors equal, and produced a small % if any more top end gain.

from what I have learned over the past year or two trying to price up and size a dual BB turbo is that they are purely for power, and do not last as long as a 360 degree thurst bearing style, yes you have lower spool time but reliability isnt as high..

I was told this by both garrett and precision when I called and asked about sizes and types

is a garrett GT28 or GT30 to large for a 2.2 ecotec with all new heads, and boost cams? i was told to look into that so i guess some one else try and lead me to a nice turbo which will give me about the same max boost as a GT25/40R turbo.

yes i was planing on it! but still need to find out what people would recamend for a turbo.

maybe my mod list will help out.

CNC patriot stage two head with high flow valve train,
comp cam boost grinf cams,
forged rods and pistons (duh)
lightened crank

those are the just engine stuff ... there will also be other upgrades to help tune the turbo set up.

i would like to be able to turn the rpms up to 7200 or so ...

I want to start off low with boost to get the hang of it ... then be able to crank it up as i get the hange of it all. i want a turbo that will be fun driving on the street but not have me worring about over spool when its up in upper 10's psi at the track. If there is anything out ther PLEASE post. cost doesn't matter!

the crank is uneccessary seeing as ours is good to way over 500...

I spun 7200 on a full stock motor spinning 10 psi for a decent amount of time.....

I gurantee your list there would support 7200 easily

QBE ... its the stock crank im just going to be getting it lightened up more. i would not spend that much cash on a forged lightened crank.

thanks nightmarescavy ... ill look into them!

i know this is off topic but my brother wants me to ask. does any one know if you a strap a small turbo onto a 2 cylinder dirt bike engine?

Re: Any one using a dual ball bearing turbo?

dirt bike engine don't know if i would want a turbo on that and it would be a t2 or some other very small turbo.
rawkfist the gt28r and gt30r are not to large their to small. you would actual be looking into a gt35r

i agree, GT35R fits the 2.2 more. just do a few calculations on a compressor map, it's the perfect size for a 2.2 wanting to run like 10+ psi.

the first ecotec drag car's turbo system was done by Innovative Turbos. They are the ones i called a while back for a turbo. they sent me a ceramic dual ball bearing stage 5 60-1 t3/t4 TO4E. spool starts at about 3300 rpm and continues to pull strong up until redline (it could easily keep spooling past it). with the cutout open it starts spool at 3000.
