S/C Pulley & Tuning question
Sunday, August 20, 2006 10:03 AM
Hi there, I'm the owner of an '05 Sunfire Ecotec and going with the GM S/C kit.

Simple question. Right now with the stock pulley I'm going with the GM reflash, let's say next year I move down to a 3.0" pulley will I need to upgrade my injectors or the stock ones can still do the job perfectly? And is the 3.0" pulley a direct bolt-on swap that will work at 100% with my previous GM reflash (that was ment for a stock pulley)? That's the big thing I'm worried about, I don't want to run lean or anything.

Thanks alot for your time.

adjustable fuel pressure regulator, toss the fuel pressure up to about 65psi and you will be good.

by good do you mean the a/f goes back to what it was with stock pulley across the board ? Didn't you change injectors when you went 3" pulley ?

yea only to go back to the gm injectors cuz anything bigger ran to rich. my af is now about 11:5 at WOT with the regulator

isn't 11.5 a little bit rich?

That's what I thought. 12-12.5 I thought was ideal.

i want it to run a little rich, But 11:5 imo is a good AF for WOT. Better than leaning out and tossing a ring land

What was it before you pt the Adj FPR on it?

and also before you changed the pulley ? basically what A/F did GM program it to be in stock condition ?

Yes, more input on this and maybe other people's experience would also be great to hear.

I have no idea what the AF was with the stock pulley as I had no wideband. When I put on the 3.0 pulley I added the wideband and noticed the car was in the 13:5+ range at WOT..Yuck. So after adding the AFPR and bumping up the fuel a bit it runs 100% better. From what I rememeber from some other people the gm reflash makes you run a bit rich from the start, Also take into account GM wanted us to use the stock plugs and gap. I assume they wanted that done becasue of the rich condition and the hotter plugs burt the fuel down a bit more.

so with the stock FPR and the 3.0 pulley at WOT (about 13-14 psi) you were down to a 13.5:1 AFR? makes me wonder what happens with the stock FPR at WOT on the OEM pulley when you can pull close to 12?

I was under the impression that our OEM FPR was a rising rate and would have no problem compensating up to about 15 psi. I really would like to see what happens with the OEM FPR and the 3.0 pulley as it should be compensating with the reflash.

I am guessing that you are then not running the OEM plugs? Possibly NGK's?

Thanks for all the info.

One more thing, can the Stage 1 Cobalt SS S/C injectors be used in a 2.2 Eco S/C setup for an upgrade?

Don't see why not. They will fit for sure since the injectors that come with the charger kit are cobalt ss injectors so any cobalt ss injector should fit a eco J.

All you gotta do after that is tune them.

Lets take the time again to THANK GM for locking the S/C reflash!!

Has anyone put together a HPTuner Tune from Stock to work with the S/C?

Hoping someone gets one soon, so its ready when I finally get the S/C in!

you would not need to use the stage 2's 42lb injectors unless you went down to a 2.8 or smaller pulley. Im currently on the 2.9" now and still have good AF numbers

2.9" with stock rods and pistons ? aren't you pushing your luck ?

you would be better served to up your fuel pressure soince you cannot andjust your injector constatnt (I.e locked from HP Tuners) and may cause more issues then you want.

As of yet no one has done anything with the HP Tuners and a GM reflash, though I would like to find a turbo guy that has done it with an eco and stick his ECU in my car and see what happens.

Also taking a look at an EC turbo tune may work, though I would be really skeptical, especially since we have changed to the TMAP instead of a IAT and MAF. wonder how you deal with that in the OEM ECU program, if you can at all?
