few posts about this.
i had a 90degree elbow and the filter pointed straight down and i had it wrapped with DEI intake wrap. worked well. i could hear the 62mm t/b whistle well with it.
i just switched over to the stock S tube and RK cold air intake extension.
but anything will be better then what you have. lol
Team GREEN
Mine will be an "S" tube from an Ecotec engine and an RK Sport CAI extension. As soon as I have pics I will post it.

Eliot I like your idea, but it looks like alot of bends before the SC. However it would get the coldest air there. Just wonder which is better cool air or more direct with less bends. By the way what are you using for the S tube? Iwill post pics of mine later. My filter has almost twice the surface area of the ones you guys are using. I think it helps alot.

Looks like a stock Ecotec setup changed around to fit his.

Josh how far down does your intake go. Mine is about 1 1/2 inch above the bottom radiator support at the lowest point.

i had it VERY low sticking way down and the s/c'er was SOOOO loud i loved it but i raised it up so the bottom of the filter was about 1-2"s up from that platic/rubber air deflector under the car so that water and @!#$ wouldnt hit it.....

Well friends to answer your questions.
I was looking for a very clean, stock looking and highly functional cold air intake. I know that are 4 turns in my custom design, but inside the intake these are very smooth, tubing is big enough (it is oval but bigger than 3" diameter if it was round), plastic tubing doesn't gets hot like metals, corrugated part avoid any trouble with common CAIs (broken bases, etc......) because withstand engine movement and finally allows me to use the battery in it original location. In other words like it was designed by GMPP specially for the car.
The intake is composed by an EcoTec "S" tube (#22712134, $30 at www.gmpartsdirect.com) and a RK Sport CAI extension with it own K&N filter.
Here is other pic with the battery installed.
Thanks,

ya, i got the same deal as eliot, but the stock S tube i have not the ecotec.
i have the ecotec one from the wifes 02 ls sport. I tried to do this, and the dame thing hit my battery. i have the side terminals, and i didnt try to move the battery.
but that would be better then the stock S tube for sure.
Here is the pic.
Notice the size of the new filter compared to the old. Mine is loud too and that is how I like it.
