turbo storage

Well, I have my turbo in a bag, in packing paper, in a box. So it's protected from most things except> rust. When i got it it was covered in some sort of greasyness which i figured was wd-40 to help stop rust from forming. Couple weeks later I'm starting to get a few suspecious looking spots that weren't there before.
Basically what I am asking is is it alright to really spray it down with the wd-40. DO I have to worry about it getting inside is the main thing im unsure of. I figure it needs to be treated but I didn't know if the 40 would eat away at any kind of seals or whatever. If someone could answer this that would be great cause i searched and didn't find anything.

the rust spots are they ont he center section? if so its fine... thats only surface rust... it wont actually rust threw... and should be fine just leaving it with out the WD-40 on it... we have 3 or 4 turbos sitting in our basement and 2 have been there for a while and they are still fine...

dont use WD40.. its water based actually and will slowly dissolve away and your turbo will end up dry and rusting after juts another week or two, i suggest strait motor oil usually. if you can a very very thin coating of that on you would be fine.

JoshF- yes, they are only on the center section. I was just wondering if I should protect it like an engine block (though they are made of iron) Cause you don't want your cylinders rusting out after your machine work ya know.

and yea, I know wd-40 isnt the greatest, but it doeswork if continously applied just about every week
Thanks for replying fellas
