Ok well i searched and got some of my answers and i know there really is nothing to it you just splice in and mount the cooling plate... but is any one actually using it on their 2.4L turbo jbody? and if you are do you have any pictures?
Im trying to think of where i would mount it that would have cool air coming in contact with it, so that i would make some what of a difference... so any advise good or bad let me know...
also if you suggest them and what not.. what ones? i have looked at a few but they all seem pretty much the same to me except the price... also thought about just pulling one off a truck with a trailer towing package... as most that i know come with them...

I have one, a B&M unit with a filter relocator... mounted to the rad behind the IC where air comes up at the air dam.
Simple install, and simple concept.... ad a pretty good thing to have.

My turbo Z has a oil cooler right in front of the radiator. I currently do not have a front mount, but will be soon. I plan to have the front mount in front of the oil cooler.

so for you two with them, did you ever run with out them? and if so did you notice a change at all in your engine temps?

My turbo car had the oil cooler when I got it. My 01 Z24 is N/A with out a oil cooler. Not a big difference in engine temps truly. Except if sitting in traffice the turbo Z climbs up quicker. I would think because of the turbo etc.. Also it is non-intercooled.I'm going to be installing a oil temp gauge in both my cars, so I might be able to tell a difference from that, but my turbo Z is down right now.

I would think that a good place would be on the rad to take advantage of when the fan comes on to cool the rad.

well i also found some from Fluidyne i think it was... they look exactly like intercoolers... i was thinking about one of these as well... and have it places like DSM's do and have a side mount intercooler style... what do you think about that?

It has been awhile since someone posted this, but I recall someone putting a rad from an auto Jbody in their 5spd. Then they ran their oil lines into the tranns cooler in the rad.

I am yet to run the car with the oil cooler and filter relocator... but I can say last year when the car ran the oil got brutally hot, and stayed hot for a LONG TIME after the engine was shut off. I'm talking like 4-5 hours.
Turbos heat oil up very fast, so a cooler is a good idea to be honest.

SunfighterGT - yea thats what i was thinking... being a N/A stock engine.. and going to turbo they dont have the cooling set ups like a factory boosted car would have... what would you say about a intercooler (looks exactly like mine now) but as an oil cooler? cuz fluidyn (sp?) has them.. and i was thinking about taking one and putting is as a Side mount intercooler like the DSM's have... but for the oil....

How bout buying the RK Sport oil cooler kit for the 2.4?
Thats what I been looking at, I definately want to get one for my Boosted 2.4 to help keep it that little bit cooler.
Umm stupid question, but why does the filter have to be relocated? and what do you do for the stock location filter? Leave it on there?

cuz the oil cooler runs a line from the port where the filter sits normaly.. then you have to still put your filter some where... thats my guess any way..

I have the sandwich type cooler on my 2.4 (goes between the filter and block )and have been running if from the first day i was turbo(3 years ago now)It mounts infront of my Rad and was a very simple install.I noticed with the new built motor that it is a must as it has ran a little hotter than when i had the stock motor.Any added engine help is needed as the 2.4 runs hot stock.
SunfighterGT wrote:As I said mine is the B&M unit... it's a really nice unit...
As you can see its of good design... it's possible to go TOO BIG on an oil cooler you don't want it to overcool the oil.
Where I'm mounting it is just fine... the air dam directs air up into the radiator so this will be in a direct path of air.... it should be fine the way I put it in.
The hard part is running the lines.

Do you mind saying where you got this from?
Thanks man.

Draggin this back to the top. Can anyone verify if this would work? I have access to an auto rad and thought this might be a better way, as you'd have less blocking the airflow to the actual radiator.
i would check jegs.com, or summitracing.com

to small , wont work
most oil coolers use 1/2 to 3/4" lines
the trans cooler in the auto rad is 3/8"
Summit has a "sandwich block" for like 80 dollars, get any kind of cooler, I have an old tranny cooler that is 8x14 that I will use. I just noticed that the summit block actuall has a thermostat built into it, so it will still provide quick oil warm up, but will still cool it down once it gets hot. Probably buy that block, and just run 5/8ths heater hose for line to and from the cooler.
my old teacher told me that oil eats heater hose..so he told me not to use it.
Well, that is the only heat resistant rubber hose we have here at the local store, so....that is what i use.
