Oil in intake
Wednesday, May 03, 2006 11:17 PM
Ive got oil in my intake pipe, It seems to be collecting right before the trottle body. ive wiped it out a couple times and it keeps comming back. this didn't happen until after the charger install. Ive had more than a few issues with the car since, so this wasn't a top priority, but the more i think about it the more it seems to worry me. Any ideas guys?

Mine on my car stock did that but I put a breather filter on it and its clean as can be now. Don't know if that would help you or not.

I had an intake on my car for about 3 years, and a breather filter for maby two; and i just took my intake off today to clean it and i noticed a bit of oil in my intake, and a tiny bit in the black 2200 box; first time i ever noticed this; i mean i dont take my intake off much.
I just got a new oil change 3 days ago.
Maby i need a new breather filter????
What causes this to happen, and its normal by the sounds of it.
Thanks.......

Shoot; forgot to mention my car is N/A, no turbo or supercharger; just typical bolt-ons
What causes this?
Thanks.

Its oil coming from the PCV hose that goes into your intake. Run that hose to a catch can and then to your intake, it should collect all the oil vapors before they get to you throttle body.

If you don't know what a catch can is, just do a search on e bay.

Thanks man.
Any pics of the pcv hose that goes into the intake; i am not sure what that is; there was a rubber tube going into the black 2200 intake box, but there is a breather filter there instede.

another thing to keep in mind with boosted cars is often oil leaks past the turbocharger bearings and creeps into the intake housing of it and works its way through the intake system. This is usually caused due to high oil pressure to the turbo... not to mention now that your engine is boosted it has more blow by through the piston rings which in turn is more air (and oil) through your breather line.

that is all true..... very true.....

the catch can will help solve the problem..... I have mine installed (2200) from the valve cover to the catch can then to the intake on the turbo............. no oil anywhere....... and my oil is always golden after 3 weeks to a month and it doesn't burn oil either....... before the catch can I used to pull off the charge pipes that come off the turbo and they would have serious residue........

now it's squeeky clean...
