well it finally happened, AEM full standalone

hey guys,

here is the latest update on my turbo project!!! well everything is here and ready to install, here is the parts list: AEM universal standalone unit, cometic head gasket, ARP head stud kit, RC Engineering 750cc injectors, Perrin electric boost solenoid, HKS SSQV bov, Jtuners turbo manifold, 2.5" charge pipes, 3" down pipe, Turbonetics custom built T3/04e Hybrid- Super 57 Trim, .63 A/R Turbine Housing, Stage III wheel with dual port actuator "internally gated.", Turbonetics silicone couplers, stainless t-bolt clamps. we plan on running 16 lbs of boost to make 350hp if our calculations are correct. i decided to go with a 57 trim instead of the 60 so its a little more streetable but still able to deliver as much as i will ever need. i plan on eventually cranking her up to 20 lbs of boost when i go to the track and put some 116 octane race fuel in her. i will also be able to turn it down to whatever i desire for everyday driving to save gas with them monster 750's thanks to my AEM.......i am really pumped to use this standalone, its gunna make a world of difference. my brother was able to get me 35% off regular price since he has a good friend who is an engineer for AEM. he is personally coming to pennsylvania in august to fully dyno tune my engine, this is why people spend 2000 dollars on a full standalone unit. he is also designing a specific base cal for my setup so i can install the standalone and flash it and be good to go until he tunes it perfectly for me. now the only problem i have to worry about is snapping axles with all this hp and ripping this weak tranny apart. im hoping that i will be ok as long as i dont take it to the track and kill it off of the line. we spent weeks sizing this turbo and it should make full boost around 3500 rpm so im hoping that it wont be as big of a hit to the tranny with my turbo. i have only broke one tranny but i can thank myself for that "launching on a sticky drag stip with low tire pressure along with my two-step MSD at 3000 rpm." well guys any comment would be appreciated, hoping to have this baby running by next weekend..... ill keep you updated.

Good set up, but you got a 57 trim and you want 350 on 16 psi?? maybe with 35 degree timing advance. lol
I think that is a little overboard.
I say tuned you should get about 300 or so.

Not here to argue with you just stating MY opinion. AEM is NOT magic.

yeah, 57 trim might get you near 350 hp at around 24 psi, but not 16 unless you've got some wicked compression and one hell of a set of cams and head port...

i didn't check your registry but i SURE hope this is on a built motor with some serious oil system modifications... or this project is just plain doomed from the start.

Oh yeah.... 20 psi should i no way require 116 octane if you have it dyno tuned with a standalone. Even if you advanced the timing all the way to the point of diminishing returns, you probably STILL would not need 116 octane. Timing advance only goes so far before it just makes cylinder pressures higher without adding any power... then.... BOOM.

yeah im talking 350 hp at the crank with 16 lbs... i think that i could run her at 20 lbs with a good tune figured up on the dyno... we figured we wiil make about 400hp at the crank with 20 lbs of boost. im really excited to see what she does.....what kind of troubles do you think i am gunna have with my tranny? i know that these trannys are weak as hell but i figure the worst that can happen is i will shatter one and i will just buy a jasper since my father is a jasper dealer and then they can pay for me to break them....labor is not a worry since we have our own shop....and i have more than a few pairs of axles layin around for it so what the hell i guess we will see what happens...i know im just asking for trouble when i go to the track... i will definately take off my 18" rims when i go there and i wont be using the two-step rev limiter... i cant figure out how to put pics on here, never have....but i do have some.....

no actually im running wiseco forged pistons, and ealgle rods, all ARP fasteners, total seal rings, balanced with all new parts such as "oil pump, timing chain, cam gears, etc." ........ as for the injectors, yes i know that those are some monsters but we took into consideration that if i want to crank my boost up to 20 pounds then im going to need them. besides i much rather have more injector than you need rather than not enough... i can always back them off as much as i need with my AEM thats not gunna be a problem. i just want to make sure i have enough fuel there for when i want to play with some evo's and wrx's...haha we are starting to install the computer in the morning, i have to rip the dash completely out so i can hide my harness well and i am removing the passenger air bag and making the top cover on the dash removable so i can pop the air bag cover off of the dash and plug my lap top into the AEM for tuning......yes i know i am gunna most likely shatter this tranny with all of this power but hey everything is fixable right!!!! i know some of you are skeptical now but i think alot of people are gunna be extremely suprised with how much this thing is gunna put out,,, and i know the only thing thats gunna kill me is my tranny but hey what can you do you just have to MAKE it work ..... its all part of the process im just taking one stop at a time...

hey guys.....

well here is the latest on this project, got the car running sunday evening but my brother had to be on a plane in detroit at 8am this morning because GM is sending him to pheonix to tune the cobalt they are running in utah to set the land speed record so therefore we didnt have enought time to get any street tuning in.... however i can say that everything has finally come together. its been a long process but it came out nice and im very antsy to get this baby tuned. the motor started right up with the AEM and looks like everything is reading correctly. i did have to install a different crank sensor along with a crank trigger wheel but it wasnt too big of a deal. now all i have left to do is tune the calibration on the AEM and then take it to a buddys garage to connect my downpipe to the exhaust underneath the car. as for the turbo, it sounds awesome and i cant wait to hear it at about 7500 rpm haha... i basically need to finish looming all the wires for the AEM and reinstall the factory ecu since its still running most of the body control functions of the car. about the only thing i had to do with the car is delete the check engine light and air bag light because i removed the passenger air bag which is now where the standalone is mounted. i plan on tuning the car in two weeks when my brother is able to come to PA again. i will keep updates and in the mean time try to get some pics uploaded but i never have on here so i need to ready up on how to first.
