LOOK WHAT I MADE!!!
Wednesday, June 28, 2006 5:50 PM
I started making this intake about 2 years ago but finally just got around to finishing it. It is made of 6061-T6 aluminum, and all of the machining was done by me. The only thing that i did not do is weld it since i have never welded aluminum before. As you can see i also ran 6 nipples acorss the bottom of the intake mani so i no longer have all those damn vaccum tee's. If you guys have any questions ask away and i will try to answer your questions. ALso there are some pics of the RC 550cc inj that i installed in my 02 ecotec rail (with out spacers) and the factory FPR regular block off plate that i made. I am running those inj of the factory computer and startup, idle, and city/street driving is just like stock. I have the base fuel pressure set at 25psi with my adj FMU. The only problem i have with those inj is i can't floor it which didn't suprise me at all so i just have to lay into the throttle but after that its fine once i get into the upper rpms and when i shift if kinda sputters for a millisecond but then is fine. But on to the pics and let me know what you guys think.

That's actually a damn nice piece. Any plans to build more and distribute them?

Haha, you could make a nice bit of change if you kept on making these things! Wouldn't be too hard now that you have the calculations down and everything now!

That doesn't look like the cartech that controls idle fuel pressure. I used the same thing turbocharging Nick's car and he insisted that I deleted the FPR. It does the same thing where if you floor it, it stutters.
Cartech has an all-in-one fpr/fmu on their web site. It is signifcatnly larger and has a fuel pressure gauge built into it. They actualy say not to remove your fpr with the one you are using. I got his to idle fine too, but that stutter when you floor it was annoying as hell.

Intake manifold looks pretty damn good.

Beautiful intake!

What machinery do you use to craft the parts for that? I am not a skilled metal worker by any means, but I'd love to try to make something like this once I'm married and stuck in the garage while the wife yells at me...

Thanks for the compliments. For me to make it i had $80 in aluminum, $34 for two cases of beer for the guy to weld it (he only wanted one case but 2 was still cheaper than anywhere else) and about another $20 for the nipples. SO under $150.

THe machine that i use is a 3-axis prototrak. (CNC)

I made that IDI cover about 2 years ago and ass of right now i have no other projects in the works. I am running out of ideas

The FMU that i have is just the Rising rate one. I am ordering the hp software here in the next few weeks so it should be gone here soon.

ANd one last thing. After putting that intake on it pulls so F'ing hard up top. Before i made peak power at 5400rpm and now above 6000rpm it is still pulling hard

I have thought about making one more since i already have most of the materials and progams but i just don't know if i have the time. ITs called one kid and another due in august!!!

I got the intake manifold flanges..... but thats about it.... Ive been thinking about trying to piece one togeather but really have not had time yet.... I got a few of the flanges laying around for a project like this... maybe when I get back in 2 weeks and find some free time I will try and see what I can get made...

Either way it looks very nice... a few questions tho...

Your runners, how long are they? What gauge alum. did you use? What size is it? 1.5" 1.75" or 2.0"? Your plenum... looks like a 5 inch to me but I could be wrong... is it aloe the same gauge as the runners or different size?

the runners are 4" long with a 1.625 ID and 2" OD. The plenum in a 4"od and a 3.5" Id. I made the flange and it is 3/4" thick and i maching pockets in the bottom of it to install rubber o-rings for the gasket.

I think EVYERBODY must have been working on one of these, and now some are starting to pop up. I have been planing one out, and my dads friend who is a machinist is ready to cut my 2.4 flange out. Just need to buy the material now, but, I have been more focused on polishing my 2.3 intake mani.
